Would be because you perhaps moved laptop or PC functions to an allegedly "smart" phone. When the emails, applications, and other services are forced to your laptop or PC, it forces them to wait for you to be at the device. This is not unlike old fashioned mail forcing you to pick it up from the mailbox.

In the name of progress and convenience, we've been seduced into being now at the mercy of the device and dependent on it.

I choose not to do that. I text minimally, only spend a few minutes with emails, and refuse all attempts at forcing me to fill out medical forms on my phone, received texts from non-personal friends, or accept any other apps. It keeps my phone as an instrument to talk to people, not be tethered and pestered.

Try it.

I am aware of DuckDuckGo and checked it out a few years ago. I'm not too worried about being Google and Facebook's source of income. Granted I don't care to see those ads popup on what I just searched on or went to some site to research. For now, I'd rather have a good working browser and search engine than using DuckDuckGo and seeing ads for tampons and bra's.
 
I get offers to VPN's like Surfshark, but it seems like more stuff to pay for.

I use DuckDuckGo and I generally don't see any ads at all.
