Google officially doesn't care about privacy anymore

This is what I've always objected to with Google licensing/privacy policy (this is from the EULA for Picasa):

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

Google claims a right to use and even modify your pictures for any use whatsoever of its own! You could, in theory, find that Google has Photoshopped one of your pics to make it look like you're dancing in a chicken suit on the table of a strip club in Reno! And they could post such a pic all over the Internet!

Thank you, but I just want a place to store and share my photos. I don't want somebody looking through them and using them for whatever purposes they may choose!

Wasn't there something like this with Facebook awhile back? Where they claimed they owned the content you posted. And they later changed their policy.

Pretty much any website that allows the upload of images and other content has this clause. Usually they only remove it from the TOS once some users get aware of it and start a witch hunt/lynchmob against that website. See Facebook.

the sad thing is that they basically NEED this kind of clause. you upload an image, they create a thumbnail out of it => modification and re-publictation.

remember .. they have been sued numerous time on base of the DMCA because google image search creates thumbnails from copyrighted works ..

for all the other site owners,
they claimed you own the contents if you uploaded anything but they can change their policy anytime and keep/use your contents ?

the streetview opponents are the most laughable ones of all ..

i already joined a group of people who will photograph every house that opted out of street view and publish the pics .. because it's perfectly legal, and you can't do anything against it. but it's google so, it's now in fashion to cry about it - while at the same time you allow your government to collect more and more data.
i had to laugh my ass off when the some streetview opponents here opted out their whole street and were interviewed for a newspaper .. BIG picture in the article (also available online) with their pictures, their full names, name of the street, city - and at least 5 house-facades on it.
but at least the FACADE won't be in street view

at the same time you allow your government to collect more and more data.

I've read somewhere that each year the US Dept of "Homeland Security" collects enough "information" that, by volume, it equals all of the information contained in the Library of Congress.

What I put in bold red is a "red flag" for me as a photographer. A lot of photo labs try to get away with that one too - no, you may not use my work to promote your business. If you want to do that, we can talk about a licensing arrangement.

the streetview opponents are the most laughable ones of all ..
It's not about the buildings, it's about the people being exposed in embarrassing situations by the Google car cam :spank:

that's not what the people complain about in the articles.

and um .. if you are exposed in an embarrassing situation IN PUBLIC i can take a pic of you, too - and there is nothing that you can do against it.

I have a love/HATE relationship with google but Corny is totally correct.

As long as you aren't a minor anything you do in public is free game.......witness the insane popularity of TMZ, paparazzi and so forth........who camp out in order to catch celebs at their worst.
