Google OS

Awesome! At long last, an option that bypasses the bloated OSs of MS and Apple.

The majority of computer users I know use their machines for email, web browsing, photo storage and the odd photo manipuation/desktop publishing. They just don't need a multi-gigabyte be-all-and-end-all OS.

I think anything that shakes up the MS almost-monopoly can only be a good thing.
 
Once you don't have internet access, you're fucked. You're also fucked if someone hacks your accounts.
 
I'm not completely sold, but it is a strong alternative option. I think it will gain some market share.
 
Remember the days when it was THE search engine. Then it grew tentacles and has become some wierd behemoth with its tendril in almost every pie.

I can see people might wanna change over to it as an alternative, but, who is in charge of the info you've got using Chrome OS once its on a remote server? Who can access such stuff, and who will guard the guards?

I am pretty excited for it actually. I mean once Windows 7 comes out, it will have a hard time breaking ground, but for the netbook market, this is definitely perfect.
 
its a very good idea.
All you need is an internet connection and any computer. Don't need to carry your laptop around to be able to access your info or work.

Mike Arrington's CrunchPad web tablet, already several prototypes in, is quickly bubbling to reality reports Bits: There's going to be an announcement in July or August, and it'll be available "as soon as possible."

Arrington's incorporated a separate company, called CrunchPad, and has apparently spent two-thirds of the last six months working on it with his 15-man team from Fusion Garage.

It's been iterated a bunch before, but worth saying again, that the Atom-powered touchscreen CrunchPad is strictly for internet consumption—it boots directly into the WebKit browser and there's no hard drive or keyboard, though you can plug in a keyboard if you want. It does support for Flash, so Arrington's claim that compared to netbooks, "most people will find it works as good as a netbook or better" for getting their internet on sounds pretty reasonable, given its 12-inch screen. Pointedly, it's not meant to compete with Apple's mythical tablet, whenever it graces the world.

No. It's going to be designed with heavy internet use in mind. Linux kernel (as far as I know) can't be loaded over a network. Either way, it's supposed to be a proper OS - loading it over the internet every time would be a huge waste of resources, and very costly.

This is really the first time I really see Linux as having a fighting chance of gaining consumer market share. Yes, it's had big backers for a while. But to consumers those backers were nobody's.

Google is definitely somebody. This was really inevitable. I knew they would, and was just waiting for the day! :D My favourite part is the new windowing system. KDE and GNOME are ok, but I find both have major issues (particularly in aesthetics, which is something I find collaboratively developed stuff often has issues with). If I had picked one Linux component I wanted built from the ground up professionally, it would have been this.

of course it can. loading a netboot image over a tftp client for example. it's not even that complicated ;) but as you already said - it misses the point.
 
if this is good then i might get rid off the comp with vista on it

i really do hate it

starting up takes up so much memory

2 gigs of RAM and its still no good guess i have to live with it but its only for work so w.e

Google is at least upfront with you to your face about what they do.

Facebook sticks what they do in fine print, and say "its in the TOS" when you find out what they do with your info.
