Googling yourself

Coincidentally, there is a prominent US economist (what I am studying in college atm) by the same name, except he is libertarian and I tend to be more liberal.

Yes - I did - and I'm there...

...so are a variety of people who share my name (and I thought it wasn't all that common)

I come up as a professor, a "quick draw" (with a gun) champion, a racing driver, an underwater photographer and another couple of people who also are/have been distance runners.

Small world, isn't it?...

Apparently I share a name with an incomparable electric engineer...amongst many other things. I looked through 5 pages and couldn't find myself.

Which means any job of mine looking for blogs or anything silly like that will be stuck (on stupid). :D

There are 15 entries that have my name in them. I am the only one in the world with my full name. I also somehow am on flare.com. haha.

I did, and the web page was all in Czech. I seldom use my full real name, and so that was the only one that showed up with my real name, and I am not Czech, although I can understand a bit of Czech from studying Russian.

I have googled myself. There are about 4 pages of entries that are actually me...then it just goes into things that aren't me.

There are far too many people with the same name as me who are more talented and intelligent. The first reference to me is the 160th result!

I have googled myself a few times and have never found myself...I wonder if I should take that as a good or bad thing.

My real name nets 26 hits
- 6 of which are professionally-based.
- 11 of which contain a bit of text written by me. (a review, some blog responses)
- 9 of which contain no text, just a name. (and may be copied for whatever reason)
- 0 of which I wouldn't want anyone else to see.

I used to have 70-or-so hits.. including a few I now deem a little too private for my own good. About a year ago, I tried to de-google myself. Worked rather well, I must say. :-)

My full real name brings up 9500 results....
My main not-anonymous internet nick name brings up about 1000 results...
this nick name (rollex_2000) I have only on two websites..... :)

When I google myself, I get a bunch of results from the cross country meets I've ran in the past. I found a girl who had the same name as me, tho :0

How would you de-google yourself? :-)

Simple. Send e-mails to websites that have your name on it, asking them to remove it. Most webmasters are surprisingly co-operative. :-)
It takes a while for Google to pick up on it (think 6 months or so) and of course your name is never completely removed thanks to sites like the Wayback Machine, but it's a good start.
