Yes and yes. Long Cabin Republicans want to identify with the wealth of their party and seem to be willing to go into denial over "homosexual issues." It's like buying the house of your dreams that has a 100 lb. rodent living in the basement.

Because they hate themselves, they hate America, they want to save a few cents on their taxes, they love the idea of burdening successive generations with the largest debt ever inherited in human history, they are pro-Chinese, they are uneducated, they don't know shit about politics or much else really, um... but seriously, Heinlein's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity, but don't rule out malice."

I want to ask hypothetical question to those who call themselves Democrats and dump on the LCR. If the attitudes of the two parties towards gays and gay rights were reversed (Don't laugh such a thing is remotely possible but the object of this thought experiment is not to debate that) would you still be a Democrat? Or would you embrace a Republican party that supported Gay rights but opposed everything else you stood for?

^This country was founded because a wise man once said "Give me liberty or give me death." In my opinion, a country that inhibits the individual liberties of its citizens is not a country that is worthy of prosperity. To answer your question, yes, if the roles were reversed I would much rather go down with the sinking ship than live my life constantly being cut down at the knees.

I am not a member of any political party, but I can tell you that any party that would include anti gay language in their platform and identity would automatically remove themselves from my pool of possible candidates to vote for. I am one of those progressive independents who think the dems can't get their act together but deserve consideration because they champion causes near and dear to my heart, like gay rights for example, and the republicans have the fist of corporate america up their collective asses so deeply they may as well be meat muppets.

I won't support a party that opposes either gay rights or gun rights, or for that matter my "God rights".

The GOP loses on two of those. If it flipped and only lost on one, it wouldn't change anything for me.

I love a good diversion and that was an admirable one. Lets consider the OP for a second, shall we?

For years, the DFL majority bottled up anti-gay marriage amendments. But with Republicans taking control of both houses this year for the first time in decades, the proposal is highly likely to pass.

The GOP platform had long favored a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, and some Republican strategists have said putting the issue on the ballot would energize their supporters to turn out for the 2012 election.
The proposed amendment would recognize marriage as "only a union between one man and one woman."

Sadly hatred for us is a secondary motive. Their primary one is hatred of Obama and a willingness to throw anyone under the bus that gets in their way.

Gay people get in the way of the GOP and they don't care for that.

The subject of the OP was not homophobia of the conservatives, but why do conservatives gays stay with the Republican party.

The purpose of the hypothetical then is not to divert but to try and introduce thought as to why gay conservatives are associated with the Republicans in answer to the OP question. I've always been uncomfortable with this knee jerk "self-loathing" response. It has always had a feel of a bigoted response to bigotry to me. I don't understand them, I think they are wrong, so I will ridicule them.
