Gordon Brown - US most important UK ally

Gordon Brown has said Britain's "most important" relationship is with the US, in his first major foreign policy speech since becoming prime minister.

He warned that he had "no truck with anti-Americanism" and said the EU should strengthen ties with the US.

Mr Brown also called for more "hard-head internationalism" in peacekeeping, aid and reconstruction.

In the speech at the Lord Mayor of London's banquet, he also warned Iran over its "nuclear ambitions".

Meaning what ? UK may go harder 'right' in 2 yrs - who woulda thunk France's leadership would be what it is now 2yrs ago?
 
The key thing to remember with France is, you never know which way the politics will go unless you keep a close eye on things, remember Napolean, The French Revolution, and WW2??

Anyway, back on topic. This Gordon Brown is full of himself, and full of US propaganda. The US is no one's ally(no offense US citizens) but itself.
 
So so true Glafna. It's all about ourselves. When will they realize that? Bush or most Americans wouldn't care if the world crumbled around us.

Darfur? Most Americans have no idea what's going on there. I have no idea why so many world leaders are so eager to curry favor with us.

Perhaps you need to re-think what YOU believe USA to be... After-all, these "leaders" are looking out for their countries best interest.
 
Isn't that a personal affront to Canada, Australia and New Zealand?
Those countries responded to the support of the UK long before the US entered either World War.
Don't get me wrong, because of our current administration, we need all the friends and allies we can get. However, you can't ignore those who came to ones' aid first.
 
I've got another few comments as to why that statement is sad.

the US forcibly taken it's independence, caused the French Revolution and in turn the Rise of Napoleon. And let's not forget they attacked Canada in 1812, refused to classify Rwanda as a genocide because they didn't want to do anything about it, only entered WW2 fully because the Japanese were stupid enough to bomb Pearl Harbor, need I go on???
 
If the original post is about Gordon Brown being an ally of the U.S. what the hell is the French Revolution etc and the Vietnam War got to do with Brown. I say Brown is an ally of the U.S. the same as many other political leaders because it makes good economic sense and if backing another country in a war that is unpopular comes along,thats the price they are prepared to pay for making a profit.
 
We're not talking about Brown, we're talking about the US.

The American Revolution sparked the French Revolution, because the soldiers that Louis XIV sent taken ideas from the colonials, and along with the Enlightenment, gave them the idea of revolution.

Vietnam was a sad attempt from the US to stop Communism, mostly because they're afraid of Communism, and the only reason China isn't on the "Invasion/Turn into a Crater" list is because they have too large a standing army, and they are too important to the rest of the planet economically.

Now, to expand on the War of 1812. The US invaded Canada to try and "liberate" it from British control, which is what they're doing in Iraq, "liberating" it. I am happy to say, we kicked their asses, and even burned down the White House(a good prerogative for the US NOT to try any military takeover. it'll probably be political or economic.)

Now, with WW2, the US were technically helping. They were sending some supplies(what they could get through) to Britain, and they had volunteer pilots over there, but they wouldn't have entered until the Third Reich collapsed in on itself, as it was doing, and the Soviet Union probably would have grabbed more land.

And then there's also the fact that Bush is degrading their health care and education systems, probably purposefully because he's a prick who wants to leave things crappy for his replacement next year, and tossing billions more into both the Pentagon "war prevention" budget and expensive new equipment for Iraq.
