Since today, I have had this uncomfortable feeling in my crotch area, particularly on my right side in the area between my scrotum and right inner thigh. I just checked it out and there appeared to be a rash. There was a also a big red lump, which I'm guessing is the source. I was wondering what it could be.

-Haven't had sex in a while so I know for sure it's not STD-related.
-I've been doing more exercises, especially squatting a lot, so perhaps it could relate to this, but I don't see how that could explain the lump, correct me if I'm wrong.
-Bug bite?
-Walking around a lot? (haven't had this issue before though)

Any info would help. Also, how long should I wait until it's time to see the doctor? I started feeling this today. Thanks for any help!

My guess is that you have a skin fungal infection. Go to your local store and pick up some anti-fungal creme/lotion, apply as per the directions, and it should clear up in 3 to 6 days.

Based upon the location, it does sound like tinea cruris aka jock itch.

Try the over-the-counter antifungals. If it doesn't do the trick, have your physician take a look.

Is there any pain or swelling? Is it warm to the touch?

From your description- did this suddenly just show up in one day or has the itching and rash been there for a while?

Shown up...for about a day and a half already. I've been powdering it, it temporarily helps.

See a dermatologist ASAP.

But from the sound of it, it sounds as if you have an ingrown hair by your thigh. Sometimes ingrown hairs can cause rashes.

However, you might also have jock it. In this case you will need to be prescribed a heavy dosage of antibiotic creme and be very vigilant about keeping that area dry.

Try Zaesorb B powder.

Either way, don't worry. You don't have an STD, and it is likely related to your workout.

Do you shower at the gym? Do you wear sandals when you do? Do you shave the inside of your thighs? A 'yes' to the first and third question and a 'no' to the second might explain why you have this, but so can genetics.

Generally, fungal infections develop slowly. You may have itching for several days before you take a look and realize there's a red ringed rash.

You might want to have your family doctor take a look to be sure.

UPDATE-

Bought an anti-fungal spray for jock itch for a couple of days. It felt worse, and the lump appeared to be getting bigger. Went to see a doctor today and he noticed that the area looked infected. He made a couple of incisions and drained out a good amount of pus. He noticed a cyst in there and took out part of it with tweezers. I then got an antibiotic to take orally twice a day, and to warm compress the area three times a day starting tomorrow. Pretty intense session, but I'm feeling better, and am hoping the open wound will heal soon. Just have to watch more of what I eat now since I can't work out till it fully heals. Thanks for all your help.

Did he send a sample to a lab for testing?

It sounds like what I get - a lot: sebaceous cysts. At least, that's all the doctors could tell me.

They're painful, smelly.

I get them so often I've become good at removing them myself.
