got a new tv! 40" LCD

I think Consumer Reports has mentioned 5-7 yr life span for replacing the lamp -- it is supposed to be serviceable.

Here's hoping we get more.
They are pricey sons a guns.
Fortunately, technology is making them less so.

Wow! That's a short life for such an expensive TV. I bought my 27" Sony tube in 1996 (I think) for $400 and it's been solid and is showing no signs of giving up.

That's supposedly just the back lighting lamp -- not the same $$ level as a tube. I Hope! We'll all find out as time marches on!

Definition and sound are great, though.

I currently own a 1080p 42-inch Phillips LCD TV with ambilight. I've had this thing for over a year and ah half, and I still love it! When I watch HD DVDs or Blu Rays on this TV, it was worth every penny. Upscaled DVD looks good too. :D

That's quite a discount for open box, usually it's not that much so yeah, great deal.

Just bought myself a new Panasonic full-HD 50" plasma - the last of their Japanese-manufactured models. (Apparently the new Chinese ones have dropped considerably in quality).

I gotta say, it's bloody fantastic! It's powered by a Mac Mini running Plex Media Centre software, with 3 terabytes of hard drive space. I've ripped my entire DVD library to the drives, so there's instant access to several hundred movies and TV shows, plus several thousand songs. Plex automatically references your video collection to online databases like IMDB, displaying cover art, synopsis, ratings etc.

It also gives you a sleek interface to heaps of online content, including YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, The Daily Show, South Park etc.

WOW, Thats nice! I'm jealous...

i also have a 40" sony bravia 1080p i love mine as well. but there's a story behind mine. i had a cheap brand 32inch tv i got a radio shack. it wasn't cheap either i paid like almost 900 with the warentee. and it broke at my school. i was so pissed i called and they said it was impack damage me or my roomate did not touch it. so i went to wallmart at like 12:30 at night with my friend. and he said i had to get 1080p so then i wanted the sony. and it didn't look so big with all the 50" and 60" next to it. so i got it. charge it to my daddy. lol. turned out to be a great buy. my whole floor uses my room. i got a blueray player for my pc so much cheaper than the standalone ones. so we have super bowl in my room and watch tv. and look stuff up online. my dad wasn't to happy. but i guess hes cool with it. it's a good tv. but i always lock my door even if im just going to brush my teeth because its the nicest tv in my dorm hall.
