My bf. mentioned to me that he had been thinking about getting a puppy. He preferred a female, Siberian Husky. I started checking out animal shelters, rescue organizations and craigs list. I'd find a few candidates but every time I replied to the ad they had already been taken. On Tuesday I found an ad on craigs and it was perfect. 11 week old female and not too expensive. I replied and to my amazement she was still available. I picked her up that evening. She is the most adorable little dog I have ever seen in my life. We are still trying to decide on a name. The previous owner had called her "Princess" but it just doesn't really fit her. I've attached a couple of pics. Isn't she the sweetest little thing around.

She's really cute! I want one too but I'll have to wait till I live in my own home ;-)

she is cute - but I worry about the health (and genetics) of such puppies..
Get her checked out by a good vet right away - - wormed, checked for Giardia, etc., and get the required puppy shots - After the 1 year booster - they are no longer required (new research confirms) = it's just the vet's want to charge you $35.00 for a $2.00 shot they don't need --
Just Rabies renewed every 3 years after the initial 1 year shot.

and don't skimp on the food - read up , find a good one, and stick to it -- it's far better to put the money in the front end - (the food) rather than pay the vet later for skin problems, allergic reactions to grains - then kidney/liver problems later !

BLAH BLAH BLAH !

AND OH YEAH - GET HER TRAINING - AND HAVE FUN - they are ONE STUBBORN BREED !! AND need an ALPHA owner.. or they will run you outta town !!

Maybe you could find a nice Alaskan indian name?

How about Elvira? Looking her in the eye in the second pic that name just came to me.

I had that on the list but he didn't like it. Reminded him of that lady that used to do the beer commercials in the 90's.

thanks for the idea though.

^^^^^^

well said, She is beautiful BUT you must take her to vet to get checked for her shots and health. If anything is wrong you have a short window to return to breeder. Also breeder should have given you a vacination list of what she has had so far, and documents of her parents if pure bred. These are very imporatnt to have.
Sometimes there are congenital defects that follow the breed from the parents. Do research on food and they are not all the same.

I wish her the best of health and happiness and hope you both enjoy her greatly. Pets are a great gift but they do require time and attension. They are hard headed and can be stubborn if not trained right. We have been doing training for years, these guys are tuff ones.

I knew somebody who named their Siberian husky Aurora. I think the mindset was Siberia = cold = northern lights.

Siberian Huskies have thick, tight coats to withstand the Siberian climate, i.e., the cold. So since you live in Atlanta, make sure she has plenty of cool places and water in the hot Atlanta summers. Good luck and enjoy.

thanks everyone for the advice and name suggestions. We appreciate them.

She has been to the vet for a check up prior to me getting her. They gave me the papers when I got her. She has an appt. for her shots etc. on the 11th. We haven't decided if we are going to get her "fixed" or not. We most likely will have it done but she's still pretty young so we don't have to decide that right now. All is well so far. She's had a couple of accidents but is doing well with potty training. She hates those "potty pads" things. lol. She tears them to pieces. I took the most adorable pic of them together yesterday. I'm going to go to Target and have it printed/framed and give it to him. We don't live together so I'm going to keep one myself. Hope he likes it.

What do you guys think of these names: Rumor, Aikia (a key a), Kaya (Ky a), Sakari, Cameo, Sierra, Harlo, Shadow, Haika (Hi ka), Harley, Heaven, Whisper. I made a list of almost 60 names and those are some of my favorites.

Thanks again.

Steven.

A lot of those names are very pretty and interesting. I'm sure she'll be happy with whatever name you give her ;)

But why is she tied up outside?????
Is that to be her permanent home?

great puppy :)... she very lucky to hace found you guys....

i love the name ..... Sky

bring a stool sample with you when you go !! DO not let the vet give rabies shot along with the 5 in 1 puppy shot - it's way too much stress on their immune systme to get all of that all at once --
you have the right to do those separate - - most states have laws regarding rabbies - but there are "clauses" that the vets don't want to tell you about - like you can wait till they are 6 momths old and it is NOT the law that they have to have it by 12 weeks. Although they would like to have you think that - because you are there - and they want to charge you for it !!! so take charge and be prepared - once the immune system is compromised - you can be in for a lot of lifelong troubles -
I don't want to scare you or seem negative - but these are important things that a lot of "pet" people are not aware of !! and i hate the vets for not wanting to discuss them - because ultimately it costs them money !! Read up on Dr. Jean Dodds (just google her) and learn all about puppy vaccinations BEFORE you go - you will be quite surprised !! at what is old wives tales and what is true - via her 25 years of research - she is an extremely well respected vet !!

Those are some nice names -
I also like Kasha (KAH SHAH) soft a --
it's also a polish word for buckwheat !!

She is adorable, but I always cringe when I hear about people giving live animals as gifts. I'm not trying to judge you or anything.

If the relationship does not work, one of you is going to be uber hurt. Probably you, since she was a gift.

Does she have her Kennel Club papers? Did you make sure to get her vet records, and book an appointment with a new vet to give her a check-up and future shots?

Good luck. I think whatever name you pick will be just perfect. Animals have a way of letting you 'know' their name after a while.

We were at the park. She has to have a leash on at all times. She has a large fenced in yard to run around at home.

I don't know how to multi quote so I'll just include some replies.

Thank you Bingo for all the information. I've never had a dog but he has. I'll make sure to mention your concerns.

Thanks Alley. She is gorgeous. We could hardly get anywhere at the park yesterday. Everyone wanted to pet her or ask questions. One lady told us we "won the award for the cutest dog of the day." lol.

Bear: I know what your saying. I'll be honest. I'm not much for dogs. I don't hate them or anything. She was a gift for him. I've given him many things and don't expect anything in return. She's his. She will be seeing a different vet. He lives over an hour away from the person I bought her from. She did give me her records and other info.

ginge: Her eyes are this deep icy blue. the pics make them look a little lighter. I actually thought of the name Kirsty but Collin didn't like it.

He's leaning towards Haika as her new name. I just got back from Target. I went and printed some pics of the two of them. I wish you could see how cute they are together. Just melts my heart.

Thanks again everyone.

Steven.
