Grammy Nominees

incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result

A britney spears fan criticizing people who can actually hold a note live without the help of auto tune.

i find that ironic.

So basically you can't be a fan of someone, who in your opinion, can't hold a note, even though she can and has, whether it be to your liking or not, and say that someone was boring and had a terrible performance? That's braindead logic.

oh sure, you can do it. I'll just find it hilarious.

^Nope, she's too talented, that never sits well with the grammy voters.

Well I am hoping that the one fair award a year clause will help M.I.A. she totally deserves some more respect. Kala was an AMAZING album that i have been listening to constantly for over a year now.

A Kathy Griffin win would be great publicity for the Grammy's. She'd be toting that thing around, whiping it out every chance she got. lol

I agree with Lex though. Carlin is the frontrunner.

Did Sugarland get any nominations in the country categories? IIRC they were snubbed by the Grammy's last year.

I'm just happy Death Cab for Cutie and the August Rush soundtrack were nominated.

P.S. "Paper Planes" sucks.. there I said it.. it's SO overrated. Overall, I'm VERY VERY disappointed at all of the nominataions for Record of the Year. Coldplay will probably take it.

yeah i mean the song is catchy or whatever but how can that even be close to consideration? she repeats most of her lyrics over and over.

Some lyrics are worth repeating.

I think lil wayne got Album of the year because it was the biggest seller of the year.

Eight nominations seems like a lot but its because he released alot of songs and is competing against himself in certain rap categories.

How did Alicia K get a best music video nomination for that James bond song?

More fraud. They just kiss her ass.

They cannot pick songs off her album and nominate them as they choose. A song has to be released.

Fair is fair so much music was released but the Grammys are making it seem that there was no worthy released music so lets take something of Alicias album and nominate it instead.

That's not how it is. Maybe for the Billboard Awards or AMAs, where sales matter. This is the Grammy's--will his album be remembered in a decade from now?

This is a terrible year in music... Lil' Wayne=8 Grammy Awards??!! C'mon!

Alicia is an actual musician that can brilliantly play an instrument and sing her ass off. The Grammys can kiss her ass all they want b/c Miss Keys deserves it and earned it.

And I'm so happy thay my girls from across the pond-Estelle, Adele, Leona and M.I.A took away nominations. Their songs and albums were worthy music released this year and I'm glad the Grammys took note of it.

I agree with you so much. I was so happy Estelle got nominated and i went absolutly crazy when MIA got nominated. I was hoping Christina would get a nomination but i wasn't really expecting it.

Leona Lewis is the most deserving of her nominations (IMO)

Weren't you the same loud mouth stan in another thread who was hoping they'd do the same for Rihanna?

No i was not. What the hell are you talking about?

Just get the fuck off my ass ok.

Nowhere have i ever wanted or suggested Rihanna get nominations for unreleased songs.

A song has to be released to get consideration and Lessons Learnt was not.

Take A Bow and Disturbia and Live Your Life were all released and went riight to number 1. And If I Never See Your Face was top 40.

The bond video was cheap and did nothing to enhance the song or give it life but it got nominated off her name.

You can be the truest musician ever and play every instrument in the world it doesnt merit breaking/changing the rules at the expense of other artists.

Look how many Grammys she already has give other derserving talent a fair chance.

You cannot be nominating a song thats 5 year old in 2008 just because the person sang it live thats fraud especially when there were many worthy vocals out there.

I think I have to agree with Danugh on this one. Even if Alicia Keys is amazing and fabulous she should release a song that makes her worthy of winning a Grammy. Not just nominating HER because she's worthy.

As mentioned before... I was really surprised by a lot of the nominations. this turns out to be one of the shittiest Grammys ever.

What happened to Alicia Keys???? That is kind of a shocker being a Grammy darling, and since Like You’ll Never See Me Again had Grammys written all over it imo. Lesson Learned is a good song, but I am surprised about the nomination since most songs that are nominated are singles, right? I don’t care for Superwoman, and Another Way to Die is one of the worst videos of the year. Nick Cannon’s masterpiece for I Stay in Love might as well have been nominated.

I am pleasantly surprised that Estelle was recognized, even though I don’t know how well of a chance she has.

Besides Alicia Keys, I think that Leona Lewis got snubbed. Best new artist, HELLOOO? Maybe the nominees’ names were scribbled down on a paper and they thought it said Jonas Brothers instead of Leona Lewis? Apologize was such a big song, I’m surprised that OneRepublic didn’t get more either. I’m somewhat surprised that Usher didn’t get more, but it makes sense. I’m also surprised that Mariah Carey did not even get 1 nomination! I didn’t expect her to be a highlight for this year, but I thought she would have 2 or 3, maybe for pop vocal or album.

Wow sexual eruption surprised me too, it seems a lot older I totally forgot about it, but I actually hope Snoop wins. Holy crap, I almost forgot about Keyshia Cole, good for her, hopefully she can win something even though I expected I Remember to be more Grammy worthy. Good for M.I.A. too, I think she's great.

Lil Wayne was surprising too and doesn’t make sense to me at all. Who actually votes for nominations? When it comes to rap/hip hop categories I just imagine older Caucasian men voting for what they heard their granddaughters talking about the most. Or maybe it is just about the name, I don’t know, but I guess that could be said about any category.

Beyonce should not even be nominated. How the hell did that happen? I doubt it will win anyways. Makes no sense...

Adele, Coldplay, and Allison Krauss make sense in terms of the grammys and will probably win everything, hopefully Leona Lewis will take something, and everything else will be insignificant. I’ll call it an early night.

A song has to be released to get consideration and Lessons Learnt was not.

Wrong.

This is from GRAMMY.com from last year, but the same applies.

What are the eligibility requirements?
For the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards, albums must be released between Oct. 1, 2006 and Sept. 30, 2007. Recordings must be in general distribution in the United States, i.e. sales by label to a branch or recognized independent distributor, via the Internet, or mail order/retail sales for a nationally marketed product.
AKA as long as a song or album is released for SALES distribution, it is eligible for nomination. A song doesn't have to be released AS A SINGLE to get a nomination.

Fair enough. But has she won a Grammy for this song before? If not then it's fine with me - there's no guarantee she'll get the Grammy anyway - it's just a nomination.
