It's just before 6 a.m., and I really should be getting my ass to the pool before work. I just had to share this with somebody.

I call my grandma in Europe every weekend. We've always been extremely close, but she's one of two people in my family that didn't know I'm gay. I've come out to my immediate family here in the US over a month ago now. I just didn't see the point of telling my 85+ year old grandmother living in a nursing home. Why complicate things, right?

Anyway, I did tell her I'm going out more, probably drink a little more than I have in the past, have new friends, and for someone that's been a loner most of his life, am much happier now. You know how grandma's have a knack for reading between the lines and asking a lot of direct questions. On Sunday she asked just about every question except the one. After our conversation, she called up my Mom and told her that she thinks I'm gay, that she thinks I have a bf, that I sound happier and more at ease than at any time in years, and why don't I just come out and tell her?

So this morning I called her up. Before I could say a lot, she just asked me "You have something to tell me, don't you?" When I said yes, I just told her that I've been seeing somebody special for three weeks now. All she wanted to know was whether it was a he. When I said yes, she said that that' all she needed to know. She said that it was wonderful, and to her it was natural. She's suspected that I'm gay for quite a long time now but didn't want to put me on the spot.

I could just kiss her. Too bad she lives 7000 miles away.

OMG!!! She's just such a wonderful grandma. I'm sure you'd catch the flight out to hug and kiss her if you could. Great stuff! You're just so lucky to have such a wonderful family there. Cheers my friend! :D

You are very blessed to have her. I'm sure instead of a kiss she might like some flowers in her room at the nursing home. ;)

Geaux Grandma! She's must be one really awesome lady.

Glad everything is cool in that department!

What a great story and grandmother. Give her a hug for all of us when you see her next, OK?

Wow, what a grandma indeed! Happy for ya man. The idea about the flowers is not a bad one I'd say. Do something nice for her. Cheers.

That's really nice. Congratulations! :) Brought a tear to my eye.

My grandmother(s) passed away when I was but a youth. But I don't believe they would have been as open to me being gay as yours. But i guess I'll never know.

You are so lucky you have a grandma like that. Usually older people are less accepting of homosexuality. In my experience anyway.

You are so lucky to have such a wonderful grandmother. What a nice story. I bet you were grinning ear to ear. Thanks for sharing.

You're right, PieRules, it's been almost 12 hours, and I'm still grinning ear to ear thinking what my grandmother did and thinking of the man I love. Thanks, guys. I just needed to share this with somebody this morning.

Awww.... your so lucky to have a grandma like that. Thanks for sharing that... I just love stories of the sort.

Great story, and gave me a big smile I needed during lunch.

I loved your story. When my mom found out there were the usual tears. But when she went to tell my grandmother (her mom), grandma just said that she had always known. I guess grandparents have been around long enough to be very preceptive.

Good for you (:

I do miss my Grandma... wish I had kept my promise to call her every weekend ):
