On top of Obama mentioning Homo Dad's and moving forward to sign an Executive Order banning discrimination against da gayz in companies that do business with the Federal government....

Things are looking up!
NOM already looks like a bunch of extremist nutcases, imagine what it'll be like in 10+ years. A surprisingly large amount of young people today are for equality, and it'll be awesome once they get older and gain more influence in society... their children (and those who are gay) will be born into a world where homophobia is considered deplorable, just like racism today. Sure it'll still exist (I wouldn't be surprised if there were people now who still think gingers and left-handed people are demons!), but society in general will be accepting.

It's also nice to hear that St. Petersburg overturned the gay propaganda law! Russia has a LONG way to go yet, but this is a step in the right direction.

Almost a year ago I signed an online petition saying I would never even consider visiting St. Petersburg until they got rid of that law. I wonder if that had any influence?

The problem with the law change here is that they just removed the local law, as it was no longer useful as federal law covered it. So the law has not changed for people living there, its just not local law now.

So yesterday, the Presbyterian Church in the US gave the thumbs up on homo weddings.

Marriage may be a civil ceremony by definition, but for most people the ceremony is associated with a church setting. Now the Presbyterian Church (USA) has decided that same-sex weddings belong in that setting. By a resounding 3 to 1 margin, the Church’s General Assembly has given its blessing to performing same-sex marriages in the denomination’s churches, making it the largest Christian denomination in the U.S. to embrace marriage equality. (The United Church of Christ beat them to it.)

It has to be ratified by the hundred-plus local presbyteries across the country -- this is just the first step.

But with the lopsided vote in the General Assembly, there's not too much worry about it failing; you don't get a vote like that unless there's solid support in the local churches.

I'm just going to say this again, as much much more work is needed in Russia and the story actually changes nothing in the city at all. Lawmakers in the city’s local assembly decided there was no longer a need for a local law now there is a federal ban.
