*Great* Frontier Airlines Commercial !

That is awesome!

It's good to see that, in this world of airline mergers and consolidations, Frontier is still around, still independent, and still a GREAT airline!

I remember flying with the original Frontier when I was a kid! They were a great regional airline! And when I heard the company was being revived, I was thrilled! I recently flew with Frontier in 2006. Like I said, a great company!

Bigger is not necessarily better. Tell that to American, United, Delta and US Airways.

That's why companies like Air Tran, Jet Blue, Southwest, and Frontier are beating the pants off them in profits!

Frontier declared bankruptcy last year. They're attempting to merge with Southwest Airlines in order to stay afloat.

Yeah, that is a funny ad.

I like this one from the 1970s for Continental. Anybody remember the jingle "At Continental Airlines, we really move our tail for you"? (This ad isn't it, but it's a gem nonetheless)

The deal with Southwest is off, pilots couldn't settle seniority issues. Republic funded Frontiers exit from Bankruptcy. Republic doesn't actually run an airline, they provide express service for some network legacy carriers.

I love Frontier! My Father worked for the 'Old' Frontier and the guys that put together the 'New' Frontier were colleagues of his. I've been to several 'Old' Frontier events (airline code FL) and a few 'New' ones (airline code F9).

F9 declared bankruptcy because their Credit Card processor demanded a much higher reserve than they could handle. The emergence from Bankruptcy ended up in an auction, the two bidders being Southwest and Republic. Republic won in large part because of the seniority issues, and the fact Southwest wanted to dismantle F9.

Republic is primarily a holding company although they DO fly a few flights under their own name, primarily Charters. They also own Chautauqua (their feeder airline), Mokulele Airlines, and Shuttle America. They acquired Milwaukee-based Midwest (YX) in September and most recently F9 and its short haul subsidiary, Lynx Aviation.

Republic is in the process of flip flopping some F9 and YX aircraft. There is some concern that they may take F9's maintenance out of Denver to save money but it is not a done deal.

But on the original topic, who can resist Griz, Jack, Larry, Foxy and Flip?

I am sad to hear that they are in bankruptcy...

Still, it was a fine company to travel with....

F9 emerged from Bankruptcy in early October with the new owner, Republic.

Griz and the Gang will fly on!

But now that YX and F9 are Married (Corporate Marriage, actually ) there will undoubtedly be some changes. We've been promised that the Animals will keep flying. Which is the point of the OP's commercial.

(And I admit the Radio version of the ad gets me singing along.)

Trivia for anyone who cares.

Each F9 aircraft has a unique animal on the tail. Some are more famous than others. They are not paintings, they are computer printed photographs that are printed on sticky paper in France and are actually a mosaic; individual areas of the tail can get a new sticker when part of the photo gets damaged.

A list of all the Animals and their stats:

BTW, the Animals with Human names are named after real people but it is an insider thing.

In case anyone is interested, perhaps the single most comprehensive website detailing the amazing history of the 'Old' Frontier.
