It is reported today that they have captured Abu Humam or Abu Rana, the second in command for Al Qaida! What is this, perhaps the 255th or the 300th second in command we have captured? Old Osama must have a shelf in his cave FULL of seconds in command. When are we going to stop whistling by the graveyard and give up on this Iraq shit?

And don't flame me, any of you right-wing hawks! I am one of those guys who gives regularly (and generously) to organizations that watch out for the maimed, the widows and their children, and the various charities that take care of handicapped soldiers from every war. If you want to do some good, start giving about $100 a month to these kinds of charities and keep your pro-war horseshit amongst yourselves. The rest of us are tired to our very hearts and souls of this pro-war insanity.

Can't people realize that this is the very reason why the whole "war on terror" is futile? There is a never-ending supply of terrorists. We can capture Osama all we want, but what about the thousands of others who can't wait to replace him? Instead of fighting the terrorists, why don't we focus our efforts on stopping the acts we commit that make them want to attack us? I'm so sick of people acting like America is this innocent victim of the evil-doers. We've done things to piss these people off and yes, it goes far beyond them simply hating our society and values.

I read in the NY Times today that some fat-ass Mullah now says Bush and all America must convert to Islam or suffer the consequences in this world or the next. With crazy Muslims on one side and insane fundamentalist Christians on the other, what fucking chance do you think the rest of us sane people have. I'd like to give each of them their own country--say one in the Arctic the other in the Antartic, or if we can put them off, each one half of Mars, and then they can nuke each other into repentence. Religious people are such a pain in the ass.

I know this won't change your argument, but, just to clarify, the 2nd in command caught was 2nd in command of Al Qaeda in Iraq...a different organization than the one run by Bin Laden. The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq is someone who replaced Al Zarqawi after he was killed. Again, just a clarification...
 
by this point it's like those parts in 1984 where they keep making those announcements "We have won a GREAT VICTORY. I am authorized to say that this may well bring the war within measuable distance of it's end!!"

Did "Dubya" ever say this was going to be easy or short-term? (I know Senator McCain said he characterized it as a day at the beach, but can you quote "Dubya" as saying that?)
