Pat Benatar, the Wilson sisters from Heart, Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, Chrissy Hynde, Debbie Harry, Pj Harvey, The Bangles, The Go-Gos, Amy Lee (Evanescence), Shirley Manson, Alanis Morissette, Stevie Nicks, Gwen Sefani, Tina Turner. any others?

I would hav to say Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks (although south park was correct she does look like a goat hahaha) or Debbie Harry.

But, to me she wasn't rock - she was Blues - and one of the best ever...

That said (and I LOVE Janis) can I throw Annie Lennox into the mix?

Janis Joplin paved the way for a lot of women today, she was just as hard-edged as any of the guys in her day.

Guess the question boils down to how you classify what makes a rock star instead of a pop star. A rock radio station would never play any of Gwen Stefani's solo work right?
