Well, I've been looking for a job and right now I'm desperate so I got a job for the nightcrew of a grocery chain here. Anybody do that or did that type of work? (that can tell me about it)

U hv to fight the sleepiness... Yeah, a lot of stocking.

I did work in 7-11. The one I was stationed in was the gangster area. Interestingly, I was told that other outlets were robbed before early morning. The one I was in, the one in the gangster area, was not.

Anyway, just be careful.

sounds like fun. I think I might be too normal for it but we will see.

I have worked more nights than I care to remember. Albeit never in a supermarket.

If you are not a night person, get going and find a day job. The sleep deprivation was soon driving me nuts...

I don't know if this is still the case, but.....

Years ago, the Safeway grocery store at Market and Church Street in San Francisco was affectionately referred to as the "Gayway." I swear to Gawd, more cruising went on in the produce department there than any three gay bars in the City! !oops!

i did it for a little while at wal mart. it was stocking. there does seem to be a "type" that does it. or at least those who stick with it for more than a little while. i liked working nights well enough it's mostly quiet and not a lot of customers. but also not a lot of things to break up the tediousness of it all. i think if i recall correctly i stocked stuff like paper towls and things.

Well, when I worked for Star Markets in Rochester (1979-1981), I was a cashier, and that was back in the days when our store was open until 10 each evening. Because I wasn't 18 yet, I had to have special permission to drive after 9:00 PM. Then the night crew would come in to restock shelves. They were a motley crew (excuse the expression) of young and old...none of them held my attention.....

It's ironic that my Dave actually does that for a living, for the Northeast's top market chain ("Everyday you get their best!" hehehe). He is a stock supervisor. He works different shifts. I asked him if he liked working nights, and he says for stocking shelves, it is better because you have far less customers getting in your way. The crew tends to be able to be a little more "loose" in their behavior too. They get their work done, but there isn't the eyes of store middle management constantly on you or riding your case.

From a partner's perspective, I like having my guy home at night. But I do understand that he can do his job under better conditions at night......:D

Years ago I worked nights stocking shelves for a grocery store. Not much to tell. It's the perfect job for desperate people. Hard work with low pay, shitty benefits, asshole bosses. At least it paid my way to finish up college, and then I got the hell out of there.

Some of you are making this sound kind of bad to the point that I might be looking for something else just in case.

Not a grocery store per say, but I worked the 11pm to 7am shift at a
''Quicky Mart" type place many moons ago...

It's a boring but easy job.

When no one's around you can crank up the music and read magazines
and drink lots of 'Slushies'...not a bad gig to get paid for....

But the best perk is the *freaks* you get to meet that come out at 3am
for everything from cigs to Yoo Hoo... What would freak out some people
just *entertained* me... I actually kinda miss those days.

IF you think of yourself as a 'night person', you'll prolly like it.
