Ground Zero Mosque -- Should it Be Built?

What's so CRAZY about this debate is that it's a waste of time...All the paper work, zoning approvals and so on were cleared way back when...There isnt a Damn thing anybody can do about the Center being built...

This story is great for a slow week in Politics...........Next...........

Exactly!

The only reason this is an issue is so that Republipukes can change the conversation and peddle hate and intolerance. Remember, just a week ago the media were blasting the insanity of the Republicans talking about cutting the deficit while wanting tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%. The Republipukes were getting slaughtered finally, by the media actually doing their job and pointing out how ridiculous this stance was.

So, instead of admitting their insanity, the Republipukes, en masse, decided to talk about this mosque. Notice how little has been talked about tax cuts and deficits this week?

Republicans have no ideas, no plans, and nothing to offer Average Joe American. So they have to stoke the fear and hate machine. In 2000 and 2004 it was us homos they used to win their elections. This election they are using Muslims and Mexicans. These hateful, infected, scabs, are a cancer, and need to be air dropped over North Korea or Pakistan.

Amen on all points....:=D:.........

For all those right wing chatterboxes out there, I would like you to know that I actually knew one of the Canadians killed in the WTC. I worked for his father-in-law and was at his wedding.

So. His family are victims just as much as anyone's.

They don't see any issue with a mosque and community centre 2 blocks away.

They don't see any problem with rebuilding a mosque in the WTC to replace the one list in 911.

They appreciate that not everyone can get past this, but also beleive that this is just one more cheap partisan political game that dishonours all the dead, including the muslims who worked at the WTC.

Actually, it's within the rights of these people to build the Mosque wherever they see fit. That's what the Constitution says they get to do and I'm fine with that.

But one of the premises behind building it, is allegedly to promote healing and understanding in the community. If that's the case, the mission has been a spectacular failure. But it isn't the government's place to get involved. It's the responsibility of the private sector.

Perhaps a group of local investors can find a location that isn't within spitting distance of Ground Zero that the Mosque could be built on. Maybe the Muslims should be a bit more understanding about our discomfort with having them there and voluntarily find another spot. This way they can demonstrate that they are about healing and not re-opening old wounds.

But if they want to build it where it is, that's OK too. Because the local townfolk should make sure that there is a gay all nite strip club on one side of it and Harry's Ham Haven and Porn Shop on the other. The free market works perfectly, if you just let it!

Why are you making this a left versus right issue? The majority of Democrats don't support building the Mosque at the current location. You're just dying to make this a partisan issue, while ignoring the fact that both the left and the right oppose this.

I believe a new location is the right compromise so that Muslim Americans can worship without eliciting feelings that push us away from our Country's basic tenet of religious acceptance while the families of 9/11 victims obtain the peace of mind they deserve.

- Congressman Mike McMahon (D-NY)

While they have a constitutional right to build the mosque, it would be better if they had demonstrated more sensitivity to the families of 9/11 victims. I urge them to do so before proceeding further.

- Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY)

As a New Yorker, I believe Ground Zero is sacred ground and should unite us. If the group seeking to build the mosque is sincere in its efforts to bring people together, I would urge them to seek an alternative location which is less divisive. I dispute the wisdom of building at that location, not the constitutional right.

- Congressman Tim Bishop (D-NY)

The pain felt by many Americans from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks is still very real, and I can understand how the thought of building a mosque near Ground Zero could reopen those wounds. For the sake of the victims and their families, I think another location should be chosen.

- Congressman Michael Arcuri (D-NY)

Are those FOUR New York Democrats "right-wing chatterboxes"?

 Mighty white of you.

And maybe beside every gay community center can be a Westboro Baptist Church chapter, with God Hates Fags sign on one side, and a NAMBLA Chapter on the other side or a KKK chapter. That'll teach those homos for building where they aren't wanted.

Hey, if you're bitching and moaning about people complaining about this, you have no place to bitch and moan if someone wants to build any of those things Jackoroe said. It is not a one way street; if its okay for the Islamic center to be built, then its okay for a strip club or anything else to be built right alongside it.

I don't give a shit what they build next to it. What I'm exposing is the petty, shitty, pearl clutching, that conservatives do when they admit "yes they have a right", but refuse to just let it be. No, they have to be shitty about the entire thing. It's like a 3 year old child getting spanked and screaming back, "didn't hurt"! It's childish.

Those four Democrats are in conservative, Republican districts. I know you hate to deal in facts. However, the facts are that Republicans have whipped this issue up in order to win votes. Vulnerable Democrats are responding in ways that I think do not reflect well on them. Nevertheless, it is the Republicans who are stoking this anti-Muslim anger. They are reprehensible people for doing so.

Maybe you should read a little history. American history is full of episodes like this, and the reputations of the people who perpetrate it do not fare particularly well.

Sorry, but that's just life. There are no absolute rights. Even religious rights.

Agreed. ..|

And unfortunately, we all run across nasty, negative, rude, hateful, spiteful, people too.

Unfortunately, we can't deport them. *shrug*

But we can stand up and call it as we see it and stand for what's right. And if those haters don't like it, tough shite. Freedom of speech and all that don't ya know.

Palemale, I've never seen a man full of so many excuses. You still ignore the fact that the majority of your fellow Democrats don't support you.

And I won't bother dissecting your crazy notion that Democrats are exploiting this for votes.

No, I unfortunately ignore your problems with reading comprehension and analytic thinking. I should ignore you because I don't have the time or desire to spell everything out in minute detail.

Look, Laika, over there. I think I see a shiny object.

Pssst..... it's called called the "ignore button". It's your friend. ..|

Sounds like you just plan on running away from the facts. How do those sour grapes taste?

54% of Democrats oppose the Mosque
70% of Independents oppose the Mosque

Our discomfort? Our? Which "our" would that be?

I know, but I could never bring myself to put anyone on ignore. Even though I'm an atheist, I think my Catholic upbringing has rendered me unable to believe anyone is beyond redemption.

I agree and have no objection to anything else being built right next door or anywhere else - at least not based on "offensiveness".

palemale sweets, there isn't anything it's not an expert on, or at least thinks so.

The ignore feature makes CE&P much more palatable. Try it, you'll like it. And remember not to peek.
