Re: Runaway Hematoma

It should sort itself out in the next few days - popped veins rarely need more than time to sort themsleves out if it was just a balls-up with a needle.

Be advised that it will go that nasty bruised off-yellow colour as the thing fades... pictures please.

Re: Runaway Hematoma

If you're on aspirin or Plavix, it will also have this effect.

Blood disseminates through the tissues when this happens. It takes the body a few days to break down the blood cells and recover the iron. It will turn a lovely shade of chartreuse in the process.

If it bugs you, take vitamin C supplements which seem to help in some people. There's also a herbal remedy called arnica that helps but you have to take it very early in the bruise to see a result.

Re: Runaway Hematoma

It will go away you just never put a lot me pressure on it. And look up your medication first coz vit 2 can contra- indicate with some anti-hypertensive's!!

Re: Runaway Hematoma

Took my mum in to get some iron infusion treatment last Friday. The nurse tried twice to find a vein, and after stabbing her twice, she gave up and looked for a doctor. So the doctor came, and he looked at her arms, and he tried four times unsuccessfully in the inner elbow, the vessels along the forearm, and on the back of her hand and above the thumb. So we were told to come back next week, but, after a while, we were given the choice of having it done just one last time. Along comes this doctor with pencil thin fingers and he spends a lot of time tapping her hand. Mum found that hilarious, and said, "He keeps tapping me" and went into fits of laughter. Laughter not withstanding, the pencil thin fingered doctor manages to find a vein and not puncture through to the otherside like his previous colleague - known as 'tissuing'. The saline solution didn't create a big bump like the last guy, and so she had her infusion. It's tricky with thin veins, and elderly skin and muscle tone. She gets it done again in a couple of weeks. Not looking forward to it. I was perspiring just looking at the discomfiture she was experiencing.

yeah sorta think that this should go the the health forum instead. but yeah doesnt look like a normal sorta blood removal

That's quite the nasty bruise...May I ask why this is in the celeb section? Does your bruise plan on releasing a movie this summer?

I had the exact same thing last summer after having some blood drawn for a test. It went away in about 10 days, but kept changing all the time. Anyway, basically, it means the person that took the sample made a mistake. Happens I guess.(*8*)

If I were you I would start taking arnica in the two weeks leading up to the op and for about a week after.
