Why were people blinded to the fact Clark Kent was Superman, when the only difference between them (other than clothes) was the glasses?

That millions bought into that, from when it started in comic books until today, still disturbs me.

But really, the guy who played Noah Bennet in Heroes said that people wouldn't recognize him in the street without his glasses.
