The gym teacher tried to require them - but the days when they would do a "jock check" and mark someone down for not wearing one were long past.

^ brings back the memory of the 1st time I ever saw men in jockstraps (and naked too)...was at the County recreation facility which had 2 huge pools...in the men's locker room. Wow. Incredibly I remember it like it was not long ago even though I was probably only ~12 or so, and I'm now 55. I was awed.
