Enthusiastic is a rather poor choice of words, maybe try provoked. How many of those cars pulled over for a broken tail light end up being stolen, contain weapons, drugs, warranted criminals, runners or just plain violent assholes with attitudes? The trend now is to call 911 with a fake emergency and shoot the first responders. It's not a black thing, it's ghetto thing. I would shoot first and ask questions later too.

If you accept then I think you should accept a certain form of behaviour.

That an athlete has accepted his country's nomination to take part in an athletic event on behalf of his national team, there is an awareness on his part that he should perform per his nominated role. In that sense his participation is obligatory, by his agreement.

Not standing for his country's national anthem recognises the right of the individual to express their political opinion.

Frankly I believe that patriotic values are not a matter of saluting the flag, or of standing for the national anthem with ones hand firmly placed over ones heart.

American values respect the rights of the citizen to express their political opinion.
