Sorry! I just don't "Get" why anyone would want to disfigure their Natural, Beautiful Skin, with infused Ink! Not to mention the Pain endured in order to mar themselves!
Granted, some of the work is absolutely Amazing, especially with vibrant colors (which unfortunately fade), and I can certainly admire the talent, and artistry, behind all of that.
I think it would be better on canvas, as opposed to Live tissue! I simply don't find intentional scaring all that attractive, or desirable.
Than again, what do I know?
Tattooing and tattooed guys aren't for everyone - your point is well-taken, Ky.

Okay, probably I'm very weird, but:
Yes, I find tattooed guys generally extremely sexy. Okay, an unattractive guy won't get much more attractive with tattoos, but an average guy will, for me. Hot guys with tattoos? OMG, love. It took me a while to accept it, but now I even love facial tattoos, to some extent. I love it as long as natural skin colour shines through.
What I don't like: Completely covered parts (especially on the chest, Sebastian Kross for example), or even totally black on a large space. That's when there's no "skin", no naked body anymore, but just a colourful or black field. Not into that. Then I also think, what a pity, that body part won't ever be naked again. It doesn't look like a tattoo on skin anymore, rather than just a tattoo, without skin. Also I don't like too scary things on it, I don't get skulls or demons tbh, but enlighten me about that one if you can. If the boy I love had a scary thing on his chest, I'd rather not like to lay my head on it to wake up on it and the first thing I see in the morning light is a skull or a demon... no thanks. But I like to learn about it.
However, even though in general I find tattoos incredibly hot, the weird part is: I myself would probably never ever get a tattoo myself!
First, there is nothing, no symbol, no text, no image, no ornaments that I would permanently like under my skin. Nothing. I'd be able to come up with a few ideas, but nothing is so strong that I'd want to pay, go through the pain, and have it on me for the rest of my life.
Second, I also don't understand how someone can go through the pain voluntarily. I have respect for those who do it, I don't question it, I just don't understand it "for myself", but would be interested to hear and learn!
Nevertheless, despite the fact that I don't see myself tattooed ever, I absolutely fall for those who are. I don't really care about the art, but I rather find it sexy how tattoos can emphasize the shape of a body part, and I have respect for being able to make such a big decision for your body, for the rest of your life.
Maybe it's the fact that it's something that I'd never do myself, that fascinates me. Maybe, if I'd even have a little tattoo, maybe tattooed people would suddenly become slightly less attractive to me.
Also, I wonder if tattooed people can be attracted or even love untattooed ones. It seems that untattooed guys are in minority now, so I'd be interested to hear what tattooed people think about us.

There was a young guy at work. Totally Cute, and Sexy as all "Heck". just as he naturally was. I'm talking black hair, green eyes, and one of the most adorable Smiles I've ever seen. He was slim with muscles, only slightly hairy, with beautiful, perfect, "olive" skin. One of Nature's alluring guys!
A high school friend of his became a talented tattooist. And, "Mikey" was an accomplished artist in his own right. He would design what he wanted, and his friend would flawlessly execute it.
It started with (cute) "Bat Mite" on his upper left arm. Then, other tats followed. There is an amazing tableau on his back. An owl on his left shoulder blade, with a "reclining" rat, over his right hip, holding up a nail, with a lightening bolt from the nail, directed at the owl, in self defense.
That was followed by a very intricate, amazingly designed, wrist band. A gold ankle bracelet. An exquisite rose, on his calf. And, more ...
The work was wonderful, in it's own right. And I had to give them both a LOT of credit.
I often tried to get "Mikey" to explain why he was doing it/having it done. I really didn't get a conclusive answer, other than he liked it. Apparently his fiance, and eventual wife, liked it, too, or she wouldn't have married him.
I never did quite "get" it. He was adorable in his clothes, but even more so out of them, before all the ink, on such beautiful skin to begin with.
It was like when he did take off his shirt, he was still wearing one.

Here is my personal take. Growing up, the only folks I knew that had tats, were ex- service men, and watermen (we lived in a port city); the general consensus was that folks who had them were not to be trusted.
Then I joined the USN. In the seven years I was in the service, I was exposed to a number of different cultures and viewpoints that were very different than I grew up with.
The big shift occurred when I got to know my Samoan shipmates. A number of them had P'ea, the traditional male tattoo of Samoa.
As you can see- The pe'a covers the body from waist to the knees. (The word tattoo in the English language is believed to have originated from the Polynesian word tatau.) The tatau process for the pe'a is extremely painful, and is an ordeal that is not lightly undergone. It takes many weeks to complete, and is also a very costly procedure, the tattooer tradionally receiving in the region of 700 fine mats as payment.

Samoan males with a pe'a are respected for their courage. Untattooed Samoan males are colloquially referred to as "naked." Those who begin the tattooing ordeal but do not complete it due to the pain, (or more rarely the inability to adequately pay the tattooist), are called 'pe'a mutu', a mark of shame. In Samoan society, the pe'a and the malu are viewed with cultural pride and identity as well as a hallmark of manhood and womanhood.
This was the game changer for me, as I really liked and respected these guys (I'm still really close to many of them, even now).
After I left the service, I started to see the odd "tribal" or barbed wire (remember them?) tats, on a few folks; they were almost always easily concealable, so you kind of had to be observant, or you'd miss them.
For the past number of years, I've been employed in the Oil 'n' Gas industry. . . And it's been interesting to note the change of acceptance, that folks have in regards to them. Anything goes these days, it seems.
As to personal preference? I don't mind them a bit, though I'm not a fan of them above the neck, and below the wrist.

I can fully understand, and appreciate, it as a Cultural "Mark" of maturing and acceptance. There is a lot of history there.
However, in societies that do not regard it as a "sign of passage", I see it as more of a cry for attention, or a purposeful indication of rebellion.
Not sure if I've mentioned this before ...
My Brother-In-Law (sister's second husband, third marriage, Long story) has a Gorgeous daughter whose Natural Beauty was nearly beyond mere mortal comprehension. Imagine my Shock when I saw her with a full sleeve tattoo!

I've seen this guy around on Tumblr. He's just the most adorable thing ever. Any clue who he is, anyone?
I've seen a lot of comments about "why would you cover your body in a shirt made of ink?" "You were cute before, and the tattoo is a shame" etc etc etc.
Tattoos are for one's self, not for others. You don't get a tattoo to look cool for others, unless you're an idiot. You get them to look cool for yourself, or as a mark or reminder for yourself. And like anything, moderation can make what you have more special, but you're the judge of what is moderate for yourself...whether that's sleeves, a tattoo here and there, or none at all.
Tattoos are for one's self, not for others. You don't get a tattoo to look cool for others, unless you're an idiot. You get them to look cool for yourself, or as a mark or reminder for yourself. And like anything, moderation can make what you have more special, but you're the judge of what is moderate for yourself...whether that's sleeves, a tattoo here and there, or none at all.

Couldn't agree more. I will say that in my case, I thought carefully about what I was getting myself into before I went ahead with it. I asked myself, 50 years from now, if I'm still around, will I still want this on me. If I couldn't answer yes, then, I didn't go through with it.
My own tattoos are very much for me. The [HD] logo on my right bicep is for my spirit of creativity, and for the dream I will soon realize - to graduate from college with a degree in visual graphics. No one can take that away from me. The Triforce Of Courage on my left bicep serves as a permanent reminder that I have had the courage to both face and overcome the personal demons of my past - suicide, depression, and severe abuse.
Do I want more? At least one more - when I graduate college, I'm going to get a graduation cap, and underneath will read, "Success is the best revenge."
But, I completely agree - tattoos are for one's self. Yes, I find them physically and sexually attractive on other men. But they didn't do that so that others can appreciate the view, they did it for themselves.
