  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Haha, my sister just called to nag me...

I didn't say i am the authority.
You are accusing for your fun sake.

My opinion is True = 100%.
What are you going to do about it.

That's okay, you do plenty of self-hating without being religious. Not like the church would make you any better or worse.

(to wit, you could have simply stated you don't go to church... instead, you reacted like I expect you to react - like a superior asshole)

Are you a librarian cuz you stay readin bitches

My reading glasses are always at arms' length, and I look damn good in them.

ZK,
You suffer from some misconceptions.
1. WHICH Bible are you referring to? There are several "Christian" versions of the Bible.
2. MOST religions accept that the Bible is not a literal document, and must be interpreted in context with other scripture and sacred texts.

Fundamentalist religions are those most likely to adhere to an "exactly as written" definition.

For those adhering to the "exactly as written" definition, are we including everything in Christian Bible, or only the NEW Testament - you know, the part that is attributed to CHRIST. Because the Old Testament, the bible of the House of David, includes laws based on hygiene and food safety that were pertinent in the day, but perhaps not so much in the 21st century.

Eaten Pork or Shellfish - condemned to death by stoning.
Extramarital relations - same.
Poly-cotton or wool-silk blends - same.

The God of Abraham was an exacting God. Jesus Christ was all forgiving. You cannot earn you way into Heaven, it is a gift freely given.

And as for interpretation - how do you feel about the Parable of The Centurion with the sick servant meeting Christ?

http://www.gaychristian101.com/Gay-Centurion.html

This interpretation might give you pause - it adds historical context of words used in the original Greek to help add texture and dimension to the definition.

As for those ministers/denominations who do not embrace the teachings of God/Christ fully, love your neighbor as yourself for example, leaves a lot of human interpretation in the mix.

And that is the problem with all written texts - they were an oral tradition for years/millenia before they were written down and codified. Even then, words change meaning over time. Sometimes significantly.

Well, I'm both. I try to differentiate individual actions from the whole, and don't really care what others think.

Better than bending over and let christians fuck us in the ass. Boggles my mind why so many gay people are desperate to be accepted by christians.

I'm slightly the same. I get that people should be free to believe what they want but those guys can be pretty off and have done some bad stuff. We don't need to believe it so we shouldn't. We have science and facts.

*waits for the explosion of inevitable replies*

Oddly enough I have never got the idea by anyone that they were desperate to be accepted by Christians specifically, just society in general or just to be treated equally. I don't think people would care whether or not the bigoted Christians accepted us if Gay people had equal rights across the board.
