Starting at a young age I started to shave my head, not because I was losing my hair but because I liked it. Now many years later I am letting my hair grow a little bit, but the places on my head that I repeatedly cut/nicked do not grow. I look funny, but I am also too lazy to always shave my head now. Is there something that can be done to get the hair to grow again or am I screwed? Here is a pic.

The hair loss pattern is very unusual. If those areas are scar tissue or places where the hair follicle was damaged during shaving, it will not regrow.

There are a couple of options-
  1. Removal of the bald area(s) - this procedure excises the skin from the bald area. It works best with guys who have thick or curly hair.
  2. Transplantation - which takes hairs from one part of your head and surgically transplants them to the balding areas. The procedure is expensive but it does look very natural.

I looks like I will just have to deal with it. Thanks.

I had no idea that head shaving could cause permanent baldness.

I started shaving my head in the summer when I was 8 or 9. Then from age 11 to about 19 I shaved whenever I felt like it, plus summer. From about 19 to 26 or so my head was always shaved. Now I let it grow to about a half an inch and then I shave it.

I have put my hair through a lot over the years. It may not be normal to get hair loss. I am not sure, but I think I may have cut the roots too much over the years.

Hi,
As a hairdresser since 1962, and a hairdressing teacher since1977, I feel I must put in my 2 bits !
DO NOT DO ANYTHING! If your head is bald in spots, it will return, it sounds like an illness called "Alopecia"
which is normally caused by nerves. I would suggest going to see a doctor, none of these "Cures" are necessary.
Imagine if shaving caused baldness, we would never have beards!!!!
Good Luck.

You make a good point. I will talk to my doctor. Thanks.

You good sir were correct.

I forgot to ask, but I went to a skin doctor for something else and he treated me for both. I have to go back in a month for more injections, but he said the hair will come back.

Thank you.
