Handsome Comedians?

New York Times media critic, Jason Zinoman, has touched off an online debate: are good looking comedians less funny?

I never really thought about how a comedian looks, some of the funniest routines sold millions of copies via sound recordings.

Matt Rife has been criticized for being cute, but not funny.

Steve Martin was as handsome as they come, and he was phenomenally successful.

Jim Carey is very handsome, even if I don't care for his comedy, but millions do.

Funny: I saw the thread title and as I was waiting . . . waiting . . . WAITING for the page to load, I was thinking "Yeah, but they're not funny"

I don't find Matt Rife funny or cute. He looks to me like a lesbian who went overboard on cheekbone implants.

Truly admire how Russell takes responses from the audience. The kind of interaction that shows real talent.

I'd rather watch comedy on the radio instead of listening to it on TV. The pictures are just a distraction, so what the performer looks like is a non factor.

If you're not so attractive, humor is a coping skill which might be more developed.

Imagine growing up being called "...the ugly one", it's almost a comedy routine in itself.

Jo Brand does it marvelously, but she's actually quite attractive.
