  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Happy Birthday Queen Victoria

I won't be celebrating; as far I am concerrned she had no legitimate claim to the British throne.

Really? Because of Sallic law? The Jacobite claimants? Or something else entirely?

I'm not making fun, I'm sincerely curious about your reasoning.

Ah yes, nothing like honoring a class of parasites, especially a dead parasite!

Yes but she's our parasite.. and she personally shaped half of Canada's current situation so like her or not it is history. Plus good excuse for picnic & fireworks...

Did I mention picnic & fireworks?

Plus, on our books anyway, it is the "Canadian Monarchy." If she keeps other countries as a hobby, that's up to her.

I think we'll vote for a republic when Prince Tampon takes over though.

Honestly: I don't understand why you guys are honoring someone else's royalty.

I get that canada used to be part of the british empire and I get that she was important, historically.

But the united states also used to be part of the british empire and we don't celebrate victoria day any more than we celebrate julius ceasar day.

You know ... If there was such a day.... 'Cuz he was important and stuff to history too. :p

& a Happy B-day from Yuki to Vickie........wait, didn't Ms. Vickie pass away?

But the united states also used to be part of the british empire and we don't celebrate victoria day any more than we celebrate julius ceasar day.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Unlike the United States, Canada didn't throw a hissy and fight a war of revolution. The Queen is still our titular head of state through the Governor General.

It is probably why Canada looks so good next to the US these days.

Canada is part of the British Commonwealth. There is no more empire. All members of the Commonwealth are self-governing countries.
