  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canucks

What a BEAUTIFUL country!!!

I hope you all have an AWESOME National Holiday!!!

:):):)

This is a 10-minute promotional video of a video made completely from the air. It's called 'Over Canada' and it covers all 10 provinces and all 3 territories, from coast to coast to coast. (Yes, we have 3 of them.)

Best viewed in full screen.

Enjoy.

This is the video that was done by Tom Brokaw to "explain" Canada to the Americans as the intro to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. This literally brings a tear to my every time I watch it.

I've not seen this before. Thank you for posting. I few spots really got to me, especially the 'Highway of Heros' segment.

For those who are interested, the Highway of Heroes is a segment of the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway (Highway 401) from Trenton, Ontario (west of Kingston) to Toronto. The segment was officially opened on September 7, 2007. When fallen soldiers are brought home, the planes and in CFB (Canadian Forces Base) Trenton. Traffic on the freeway is temporarily stopped, allowing a motorcade free access to the highway to Toronto where the government takes them on their final journeys to their families, wherever that may be in Canada.

This used to be a quite procession, but people began to stop on the bridges and watch the procession pass. Now, thousands of people stop and pay their respects. Processions are now announced ahead of time, allowing the supporters time to be in place to honour the fallen soldiers.

Bring on the tissues:

Yeah it is quite a spectacle. Two or three times in the past on the drive home from Toronto to Ottawa, I have actually gone by the procession (traffic eastbound isn't affected). I would see all the people on the overpasses, and then see the actual procession. And I'd have tears running down my cheeks as I am driving.

Yeah it is quite a spectacle.

Indeed. This image really got to me. Note particularly the ladder:

Neil,
I meant to post back to you on the Video you posted - it was a great aerial tour of Canada. Thanks for posting/letting me know about it.

I need to review the others.
I remember Tom Brokaw and the Vancouver Olympics, but it's been awhile since the original broadcast.

As I started watching this, I remembered watching it, and all of the other film about our two countries - including an extended piece on the Air Base in New Foundland, where WWII flights would embark from and land for refueling - it had become a small airport with the advent of the Jumbo Jets - but became a huge temporary home for so many of those caught in the air enroute to the US from Europe back on 9/11/2001.

The hospitality of our neighbors to the North was phenomenal.

It's sad that, after so may years of shared border, we had to tighten identity requirements to passports in order to cross over to each other's land.

We've enjoyed many trips to Niagara Fall, Ontario, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Fort Erie, Toronto. My wife has family heading up toward the Bay of Fundy.

As we Americans remember our independence, today, we still embrace our Canadian Friends.

The Highway of Heroes is a powerful piece.
An Army Sergeant from just south of here recently
came home - people lined the route from the Rochester Airport down to Wayland, abour 60-70 miles away, to pay their respects.
