Hard Candy vs. E=MC2

I've always like Mariah. E=MC2!!!

I wish Christina and her would make a duet song. That would fucking kill.

"Im that Chick" is fucking amazing!!! thats a number one song right there! im def. buying mariahs new album now.....
Have you heard the whole thing yet or just the snippit on Amazon? That song should be released as a single but she better be careful comparing herself to Pac and Biggie before she gets shot too!

I'm gonna have to go with Madonna. Mariah Scary is a wreck.
Mariah may be number one right now but she's been on the charts for 7 weeks. She's sold 286,000 since. Madonna's only been on the charts for 2 weeks and she's already sold 217,000.

Madonna doesn't have to depend on anyone to have a #1. She's already proven that she can do it all by herself over and over again.

LOL Mariah's song was released to digital outlets the same time that 4 Minutes was released....so it's only been out for a little over a week.

It's been on the charts for 7 weeks...at least that's what I see here.
I don't know exactly when it was digitally released but it's been on the charts for that long. It's been on there that long and it's sold that much compared to Madonna's that's only been on there for 2 weeks and it's already sold close to Mariah's. lol

Touch my body was released to radio 7 weeks ago, but it wasnt released digitally until 2 weeks ago...the same day as 4 minutes....both are huge hits! im happy for both of them

So there must not have been much anticipation for Mariah's song then?

The record for first week digital sales was 270k set by Rihanna's Umbrella. Mariah's broke that record with 286K. That is pretty darn impressive to be honest. If that ain't anticipation, then I don't know what is.

typically airplay doesnt peak in the first weeks that a song is released. however, downloads are high in the first weeks then drops. the record company probably wanted to time its release so it will get to #1 for sure. its strategy i guess. regardless i think it still would have reached #1.

It's been playing for 7 weeks and I just heard Madonna's song on the radio maybe 1 week and a half ago. We are here copmparing Madonna's and Mariah's sales according to buzz and anticipation not Rihanna's.
It's been on the radio that long and sold that compared to Madonna's that hasn't been playing on the radio that long. To me it seems that Madonna's has more buzz and selling better compared to the time they have both been playing. I definitely think that Madonna's will fair better and will definitely make more money from concert ticket sales also. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

both mariah & madonna are moving in very different directions from their previous stuff so who knows how they will fare. i think there is more anticipation for mariah because of the whole "breakdown" bs. yeah her last album was a hit but is she really making a comeback or did she just have one good album? both of them will sell & they will prob reach #1. i dont think madonna will sell as much as mariah, just speaking US sales. she hasnt sold that much since ray of light or music. she will probably sell a lot & then fall of the charts soon after. mariah typically has steady sales. mariah has good sales outside the US but madonna has her beat on that.

hopefully they both do great. i am big fans of both of them, even though honestly i dont like 4 minutes and i dont like mimi's hiphop sound, i do like some of the songs, but i dont think she has to talk about drugs & her tits. =p

I really do think that airplay is a strategy used to try to work up a buzz before a record is released. The more it is played, the better it will (usually) sell.
But this makes alot of sense to me. Thanks for putting it that way. ;)

yeah i dont really like how they include download sales. it kind of skews what is really sucessful on the charts. too bad they dont make downloads weigh less on chart positions.

Yep, Mariah will do very well in the US and in Asia, as usual. Madonna will probably have a big first couple of weeks in the US and then drop dramatically like her previous album. In Europe, she'll sell like hot cakes since they eat anything she releases over there.

I just have to laugh at the Mariah fans. This woman has and always will be desperate for #1s. It means nothing when you price your songs at 49 cents so mass amounts will be sold (Loverboy, and My All anyone?) and when you delay downloads for six weeks guaranteeing you a position at the top. Touch My Body is already going down.

I listened to four songs off of Mariah's record and the rest in samples and it pales to Emancipation. They all sound like generic r&b numbers. The only standouts are the horrible Touch My Body, the very relaxing That Chick, and Loving You Long Time. No doubt it will sale good in the US though. I beg for her to stop with her diva attitude and go back to work with Walter Afanasieff if only for her quality ballads. Nowadays it seems like she's trying to come up with We Belong Together V 4.0.

While not a fan of urban Mariah I can honestly say Butterfly was her greatest album. Very much r&b but mixed brilliantly with her great songwriting she has seemed to lost a while back. It contains her best ballad (Whenever You Call) and one of her best r&b songs (The Roof).

Madonna is also desperate for a US hit with the shit that is 4 Minutes. While I was saddened by "Madonna goes r&b/hip-hop" based on what I heard (4 Minutes, the very nice Miles Away, Candy Shop, and the mess that is Give It To Me) I am hopeful for another Bedtime Stories. Besides, this woman calculates every tiny move she makes. I hardly think she is that stupid to abandon her pop roots and try to make a Lil' Jon record and judging by Miles Away I think I'm correct.

Like others have said, Mariah takes the US but Madonna trumps elsewhere.

If anyone cares Mariah's cd has just leaked. If the woman has any sense she will skip Bye Bye and release Lovin' U Long Time as the 2nd single. Any song that samples DeBarge has to be good. Who the fuck wants We Belong Together Pt. 3 in the summer?

I agree! I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time (despite the ridiculous title) is definitely a jam! DJ Toomp (the producer) said Mariah promised it will be a single at some point...so that's good to hear!

i just love how people always want to count these two artist out & put them down for being the pop power houses they are.

Mariah sells-its what she does best beside sing!

Madonna makes fools out of everyone who counts her out-its what she does best beside dance!

learn people. learn.
Rrrrrrrrrrrrespect;)

Agreed! Let both of them have success.

What bothers me is every time Madonna releases a CD, Mariah's fans attack her & try to compare the two. What I want to know is, Where are Mariah's fans when she goes out on tour? Mariah has NOT had a sold-out show in YEARS! Madonna's latest world tour broke box office records and raked in hundreds of millions of dollars. I've seen Madonna live 7 times and each show is better than the last! Poor Mariah, did she even go on tour to promote her last release?

You are absolutely right. That fat sow thought she could capitalize on the success of her album "the Constipation of Mimi" for a sold out tour. What a big letdown for her.She had to change a lot of dates to smaller venues and some dates never sold-out .
I've seen Madonna live 11 times and her shows are amazing.I saw five minutes of the Mimi tour on TV and I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.Seeing that fat cow dressed like a Hollywood hooker screeching and shaking her hand was so pathetic.

mariah is one of my favorite music artists, but i probably wouldnt go to one of her shows. but i probably wouldnt go to anyone elses show. i just dont really care to go see someone in concert, its not like im going to personally meet them. concerts arent my choice of entertainment, especially since tickets are overpriced. but i do own all of her cd's.

maybe thats why mariah sells cd's & madonna sells tickets. different artists attract different fan bases.
