  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Harke, you're FIRED!

Did he technically (in the eyes of the bullshit job) have authority over you, even though he was the super of the next shift?

Also...what was the "discriminatory" remark? You sound like you resented him giving you orders in part because he was Polish. Did you say so in the course of swearing at the job?

He had a right to ask. He had no right to ask that way for seven months.

I did not abuse him. I said "Goddammit!" in Dutch.

I don't think he took it personally, because he was not God, and he was also at the other side of the room.

Are you aware that 'godverdomme' is Polish for "suck my butthole"?

Good, because it isn't; I made that up. :-)

Seriously, though, what did they claim you'd done to deserve firing? I'm still not clear on what you thought was the bullshit excuse and what you thought was the real reason. Generally people who do most of the work can get away with a LOT.

Screen door, submarine, etc.

Who me? Possibly.

The manager conceded that they were having trouble between the employees and the Poles, and that whatever reasoning I used was completely beside the point. They also had said much earlier that month that they'd be paying close attention to everyone, and that those that made trouble of any kind would be sent away.

The job would have been ended in two months.

Generally people who do most of the work can get away with a LOT.

That was the strange thing; that wasn't the case here. They prefered to send good or cheap people away, and get new ones.

I'm aware of only one person who got in an argument with yet another Pole who wasn't immediately fired and she ended up being sent away the next day for refusing to work together with the person she thought back before.

Another person, a black teenager, got sent away after argueing with the same Pole. He worked well and teenagers get incredibly low wages compared to adults. He cried that this (non-supervisor) person had no right to order him around before the manager (not a Pole) fired him.

Then there was the Dutch assistant manager who got fired for having one migraine attack too many...

I blasphemed, I argued and I got the boot.

Yes, they took my job, but I had my revenge...
I let them keep it!

I thought the Netherlands had strong workforce protection, almost making it impossible to fire people. I thought they would have sent you all to a "cultural understanding seminar" or something first. Hmmmmm.

Not for temp workers or Polish people, they don't.

WHile I do wish you the best of luck in the future, maybe next time you won't use language like that

Sorry you lost your job! I know what it is like to need work. Good luck in finding new employment!

im sorry you lost your job, but the fact that the managers nationality is even a point of discussion makes me suspect that it might not have been unjustified.

I should have probably used a lot more.

Let's hope I don't go without for too long.

He wasn't the manager.

Poor Harke.

Not living the dream of the Third Reich.

Why'd you want to work in a factory anyway?

I had been without a job, living out of my inheritence, for six months.
I was happy to have one.

Apply for unemployment benefits, get into a "reintegratie traject" (this year
there is still a budget, next year maybe not so much) and get a cosy job at one of our endless (semi) government institutions.

I don't want that.
I have a job I actually want coming in July at the latest, and I just want to make money to pay the bills in the mean time.

This time around I will be applying for my social benefits, just in case I'll need them.

I feel fashionable already.

Then there is fresh employment for you in Paris in Haute Couture.
You could specialise in black leather apparel. Not sure about ladies dresses.

Avoid mentioning the Jews, and Muslims(and the Poles) and you are certain to avoid dismissal.

How do you feel about the French?

Best, also to avoid, alcohol.
