Has the crime rate risen in your city because of the Pandemic?

The crime rate is up in Los Angeles, but not because of the pandemic, because of politics. During the Black Lives Matter madness, the City Council decided to cut the Police Department Budget, so there are now fewer policemen on the street. Additionally, as has happened in many other cities, the police--finding themselves under attack--have held back in enforcing the law to the degree they did previously. This is in addition to the further problem that many misdemeanors are no longer prosecuted, and the District Attorney lets criminal suspects out of detention without requiring bail. I should add that the crime wave we are experiencing is almost entirely a black crime wave and, to a lesser extent, a homeless crime wave.
1. OF COURSE you had to add that it's a black crime wave.
2. Police don't prevent crime, there's ample data that affirms this. investing in social programs and mental healthcare would reduce crime, but then the prison shareholders would go broke and racists would lose the joy of watching the police kicking black people in the face on the news every night.
3. cash bail just means "it's not illegal if you're rich."
4. this is AmeriKKKA, a nation built on crime where, strangely, people love to give sermons about how terrible crime is.
5. that whistle is piercing my ears.

color me ten different shades of shocked that a thread about crime has brought forth the racist dogwhistling :rotflmao:

You can say what you want about the Insurrection, but when the IRS fails to handle taxation matters, the End Is Near.
speaking of crime, you mean where people beat up cops and broke into a govt building stealing property and threatening to lynch the VP to overturn an election and still aren't held in the same contempt by the right as Black Lives Matter? :rotflmao:

I'm in Chicago and it isn't the pandemic that is the problem! That's all im gonna say!
This is why I try to tell people celebs don't love us. You'd think Mr Billionaire Kanye West would be investing in his city to make it safer, maybe when he's done with his nazi propaganda tour (that's winning him a lot of fans on the right, shocker).

He's such a fuckin moron! And the politicians do not help States attorney Kim Foxx would be doing better installing a revolving door at the jail house!

Nobody ever listens to me. Crime generates MILLIONS for the state. Court fees and fines, they have zero interest in prevention. Just like I predicted, when covid happened and the courts got congested they had to do what I'd suggested years ago and prioritize policing, now I'm seeing, also like I predicted, fewer low-level and non-violent arrests and more rape, domestic violence and even murder arrests, sometimes 4 or 5 murder arrests in a day. When we use our police resources WISELY cops are able to apprehend people who TRULY represent a threat to public safety, something we couldn't do when we had them just running around harassing anybody with brown skin for any arbitrary reason.

Americans are so racist they willingly trade in public safety to enjoy watching a militant-style policing of black communities. They don't care if a serial killer is running around they still want cops chasing black men around over weed or a traffic ticket or a misdemeanor failure to appear bench warrant. It's obnoxious and pathetic and completely self-defeating, leaving all of us in perpetual danger, but damn if people don't get a kick out of teeheehee-ing about "black criminality," even if it means truly problematic criminals of all colors can take advantage of our constantly-drained police forces.

Yes. The homeless issue was already bad before. With the pandemic it got way worse with people still working, but no able to afford places to stay. Because of that theft, assault, trespassing, etc. all went way up.

I should also say that my local PD refused to go out for most calls. That didn't help. My uncle's ex boyfriend said the same for the LA area. I know a couple people here that had their brand new trucks stolen and the PD said they wouldn't come out.

I don't doubt there was a boon to the prison sector though. As people praise the markets going up while ignoring all those hurting what can anyone expect.

Their job first and foremost is to protect high-value property and capital. As long as the banks are safe and the Neiman Marcus stores aren't being looted, everything else can wait. I remember during a BLM protest people broke into one of those high-end celebrity clothing stores, I'm not exaggerating in less than 10 seconds after the glass broke the place was surrounded by blue lights. They know what their job is, and it's not to keep us safe. We've allowed it cuz *see above remarks about trading public safety for state-sanctioned racist violence* If it was a domestic violence call in a low income neighborhood it wouldn't taken them an hour and a half.

Can I ask a serious question about BLM and not get hung on a cross? If BLM is the true message of it instead of fuck the police then how come the only thing you hear about on the news is blacks killing other blacks? If BLM truly do matter then why all the killing in their own race? It kind of astounds me everyday on the news this black person was shot these black kids were shot et all, well I mean did they not get the memo? Further more the business of the looting I mean some of these people were ransacking black owned businesses where is the logic in any of that?!

i just took a huge bong rip so i'm itemizing for my sake. there are several questions in there, i expect answers as i was kind enough to answer yours. :gogirl:

1. We can walk and chew gum.
2. State-sanctioned murder in lieu of due process is a violation of civil rights, police murdering people is not normal and shouldn't be happening. if your response to this is anything other than "this is wrong" (bonus points for "how can i help?") you need to do some soul searching.
3. we've had stop-the-violence initiatives in our communities since at least the 80s, we host bbqs and invite the police to develop a relationship with law enforcement. this doesn't make the news for reasons so obvious i don't need to state them
4. repeat #3
5. the phrase "black on black crime" is racist propaganda. the tone of the conversation is "black people are violent and dangerous!" never "how can we make black people safer?" it's a softcore version of the n word. most asians kill asians, most latinos kill latinos, same for white people. violence is geographical, this phenomenon only proves that we're still segregated. may i grill you about white on white violence?
6. white people riot and destroy property and commit arson after sporting events, are you responsible for their behavior because they're the same color? if not, why am i responsible for black looters? it's a byproduct of racism to look at black people doing something bad and then turning to someone like me as if i'm their fucking babysitter.
7. the difference between black>black violence and police>black violence is prosecution. if i kill a black person i go to prison, if a cop does they get desk duty
8. police brutality is wrong
9. police brutality is wrong
10. police brutality is wrong
11. repeat 8, 9 and 10 until it sinks all the way in to the recesses of your brain.
12. are all races responsible for the behavior of their peers or just black people?
13. the environment most blacks are raised in makes mental illness ineivtable, probably more likely than not. imagine being a child and witnessing a shootout on the way to school. black americans have been in a mental health crisis since the 80s with no resources and no access to therapies or programs to fight it. a lot of us are ticking time bombs living in neighborhoods full of triggers. utnil americans stop this "BLACK PEOPLE ARE MURDEROUS THUGS!" campaign and show some goddamned sympathy (impossible for some, I know) the problem will continue. wagging a disapproving finger and going "tsk tsk tsk" is like trying to put out a forest fire with napalm.

we need to start having the "mental health" conversation with black people the same way we do when a white kid shoots up a school or a music festival or a black church or a predominantly jewish town in illinois et cetera.

No ur not responsible for everyone in your community any more than I am, I never said you were, everyone should be responsible for his/her own actions! I don't sanction police murdering people, but I also do not support any violence towards the police! I have seen the stop the violence initiatives on the news but it almost seems too little too late, it just seems like it is way beyond that! I'm not trying to stir the pot piss you off or anything I just think all of this is ridiculous! Yes mental health and medication affordability is a problem for everyone. It just seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, I mean it's an everyday occurence and it gets to the point I won't watch the news for months at a time! I am sympathetic I mean I have 3 people at mine all with health problems 2 of which asthma and diabetic are completely asshole priced so I get that I mean I broke my foot and was staring down the barrel of surgery there is no money in the budget for surgery that would have emptied what scraping I have scrounged together! Furthermore I know that public aid is asinine and shit takes forever! I don't think any of this will ever get fixed as politucians like the smokescreen politics ie gay marriage simple problem simple fix legalize it done marijuana legalize it done abortion legalize it done 3 simple problems fixed in 3 minutes now for the hard problems uni health care, free schooling, free meds, homelessness, american jobs but they'll never get to these because these are the issues that take work to fix!

Why doesn't anybody ask Asians whites or Latinos what they're doing about intra-racial violence?

I don't sanction police murdering people, but I also do not support any violence towards the police!
There's that reflex, can't just issue a supportive statement to black people without "BUT." Police aren't victims of violence, did someone tell you black people are going around beating up cops? Last major news story I saw about violence against police was Jan 6, though the #bluelivesmatter movement died the moment it was white people assaulting cops.
I have seen the stop the violence initiatives on the news but it almost seems too little too late, it just seems like it is way beyond that!
There it is again, "Yeah, you're trying BUT!!!!!!"

I'm not trying to stir the pot piss you off or anything I just think all of this is ridiculous!
I believe you, I know when someone's trying to provoke me, YOU aren't the one who does that.

We will see progress when some of the 90 year old career politicians die off and we get fresh young blood in there that knows how to get shit done. California should serve as a model that there are people trying to move the nation forward. Illinois as well, ending cash bail. we're slowly undoing the damage created by our for-profit legal system but everyone is so attached to the system as-is (despite it being massively dysfunctional and corrupt, go figure) that there's resistance. It's oxymoronic that pretty much everyone admits our political system doesn't work, but as soon as somebody comes along with new ideas they're treated like a witch in Salem.

Social media is a very poweful tool that's really underused by Americans, they're using it to topple corrupt governments in other countries, we can do the same here. We have closer contact to our lawmakers than ever before and the next few years apps like twitter are going to make-or-break some political movements. It's not the end-all-be-all but it does give the underclass a voice like they've never had before, up until about 20 years ago, the elite had control over most media and the American narrative itself. Losing that stranglehold is something they'll never recover from, that's why republicans are being CNN and Twitter.
