My eyes (blue) are sensitive to the light. Doc says it's due to dry eyes though. I am not good about using drops.

It's a theory that people with dark eyes naturally draw in more light, and are able to see better in high sunlight conditions (such as African planes, deserts, islands, etc). People with blue eyes mutated to be able to see colors better in gloomy conditions (such as in the UK and parts of Europe).

May or may not be true, but it makes sense.

The colour of the iris is irrelevant. As long as the iris expands and contracts to increase or decrease the size of the pupil, that is all that matters. The Iris does not absorb light and transmit it, it has no nerve cells and does not transmit absorbed light to the rods and cones (light and colour receptors)

Blue eyes are probably more common in europeans simply because the gene originated in that gene pool, and cross-racial breeding was rare due to societal conventions.
