  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Have you ever been gay bashed?

Only a bit verbally so far. I just try to joke around about it and not let it get to me. I just accept that not everyone's going to like me, including my own brother.

Nope. A 6ft inshape gay guy with a license to carry a pistol is not the best target.

Let's just say middle school and high school weren't fun. I did discover that if you're called faggot and fairy enough those words lose all meaning to you. And I developed a very effective "fuck you" look. These days I'm quite fond of fairy, go figure.

Yes verbally by some College students at a Gay Prom.

Yes, my ex has been physically attacked recently. There was a thread about it a while ago.

He chose not to do anything, which I know people will be angry about but he was afraid the people would seek revenge. It's a small village that he lives in, and everyone knows him and where he lives.

No.

Gotten close, though. Once I stand up, those bitches tend to leave the room, though.

Yes. Quite a while ago I was struck with a metal pipe in a drive-by bashing that seemed to come out of nowhere. I think it was a car load of teens.

Once, in the sixth grade, at a church retreat. We were playing sports, and I chose to play Football instead of Volley Ball haha. Well there was this guy Matt on my team who clearly didn't like the way I was playing. Well my team lost, so Matt and his buddy decided to push me to the ground and call me queer. I told my mom about it months after it happened, nothing ever really came of it.

I came out in school when I was 14 but people didn't really say anything to me about it until my final year because I was seeing someone from a different school and they found out. Everyone was mostly fine with it and I wasn't the type to take shit from people lying down either. There was one boy who was just a little prick about it and I remember one day he was walking down a packed corridor and shouted something like "did you enjoy getting fucked up the arse last night" to which I replied "yeah it was fucking brilliant, thanks for asking". Everyone just started laughing at him, it was kind of fun.

Nope. And probably never will. I don't let people bully/bash me for whatever reason.

Nope.

Knock on Wood.

I was also out at 16 in High School but nothing ever happened. It did happen to other guys. Confidence wins all the time.

Not yet, thank my lucky stars.

I have been verbally "bashed" several times. Always in the better parts of decent, liberal cities too. A few times in San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, OR. Never had problems out in the 'burbs or the country, so far, for some reason.

I was verbally abused once, it's actually a funny/gross story though. It was at some party, and this drunk girl called me a fag and a homo. My friend Anna actually got even more pissed about it than I did, and later in the night, she vomited in that girls Gucci purse as revenge haha.

Other than that though, I've never heard anyone make fun of me because I'm gay, and nobody has ever tried to physically hurt me because of it. I think part of the reason is that people usually don't assume I'm gay just by looking at me or hearing my voice. I have some friends who are more "obviously gay", and they have faced some pretty terrible stuff. It's so horrible what some of the people I know have had to put up with. Hopefully, things like that will be so much less common in the future.

I was verbally bashed every day in high school

My first boyfriend, Aaron Webster, was gay bashed to death in 2001, in Vancouver. I went out with him when I first came out in 1984.

They caught the guys and they went to prison

That's so horrible, I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope he's somewhere better now. Some people just cannot allow someone they disagree with to exist, and it's these people we really need to stand up against. :(

What adds insult to injury is, if I read the article correctly, the attacker was treated as a young offender and only got 3 years. This is dreadful, as young offenders are on the rise nowadays. I know it's off topic, but I recently heard about a boy here in the UK who's committed about 50 crimes, including stealing cars and breaking and entering, but as he's only 11 he can't be punished for any of them. It's ridiculous.

Hm.... nope. I've been out for 4 years now and so far so good. I have heard of a few incidents with friends being punched in the face. I have to say though, that a lot of the more bitchy gay guys ask for it. When drunk they start to yell out abuse at "straight" guys who wear ugly clothes, call them fat, etc. Not cool.

I'm really sorry to read this :( So unfortunate.

I was never officially out in high school, but I was verbally abused time to time. One guy told me I was a disgrace to America. Same guy took his hate further and things got violent. Really the first time something like that happened to me. I'm used to verbal bashing and I've learned to just shrug it off. If I make someone that uncomfortable that they resort to elementary name calling, they just aren't worth my time.

Do all states in America recognize gay hate crimes?
