Just sitting here chillin' enjoying my morning coffee. Browsing youtube. Found this clip from Hancock.

OMG!

So, at the beginning of the clip, she drove to his trailer.

Before I watched this clip, I could have sworn my dogs' lives on her flying to his trailer and making a hard landing leaving a crater and cloud of dust.

At first, I thought may be I saw another edition of this movie or something. I searched for the same scene from different channels and the same thing. She drove her car to his trailer. I couldn't find at all her flying to his trailer.

It's a little disorienting. I mean, even now that I know I have false memory of this scene of the movie, in my head I still remember very clearly that she flew to his trailer and making a hard landing in front of him before they started talking and her answering his questions.

Have you caught yourself having false memory? What was it about and was it disorienting?

Not that I can recall. I have had exaggerated memories such as remembering a place from my youth to be much bigger than it is in real life. I have noticed that when discussing life events from the past that my recollection can be far different from those who were at the same event with me. We see things from our perspective and others from their perspective, on top of this our brains "fill in" parts of an event that we can't recall so we get a full picture of said event. This is one reason that most crimes have a statue of limitations for trying an accused person.

Only in dreams, I think.

But I notice that my sister has mild false memory syndrome.

Yes!

If it's any reassurance, I (but what do I know? ;) ) don't think you're losing your mind. ;)

From IMDB, "Alternate Versions" section:

An extended cut was released on DVD and Blu-Ray featuring several additional and modified scenes. The additional scenes include, but are not limited to: Hancock bringing a girl to his trailer to have sex, Mary Embrey driving to Hancock's trailer instead of flying there, and Hancock getting off a prison bus while chained to other prisoners whom he drags behind him.

And from here, discussing it:

Continuity mistake: In the scene when Mary visits Hancock for the first time at his house, she arrives from the air and crashes down on the ground, after a discussion inside they both walk outside together and Mary is shown getting into a car. In the next shot shown from above the house the car has disappeared and they both fly into the air.

Suggested correction: No, we see her drive up in the car, not fly in. But you are right that when we see them take off the car is missing.

You must have seen a different version of the movie I saw her land there, it's on Netflix.

I don't know if an alternate version of "driving, not flying" was to only fix the continuity when departing the scene (scene ends). I haven't seen that movie for ages so don't remember which version it was I saw. :)

^ Well done Trinket!

I like to think I can specialize in helping JUB posters know they're not losing their minds. :ROFLMAO: My own sanity on the other hand... ;)

Still, it's a worthy topic - false memories. And doubting yourself when you're presented with an alternate version of something, like films these days that are never quite "locked" and we expect a Director's/Expanded/Ultimate/Alternate cut! 📽️

I have a sister with False Memory Syndrome. I believe, in her case, it is false memories planted by her therapist leading her down a path for, maybe, the therapist's own validation.

As for me, I do mis-remember things from my past.

Yes. I also sometimes wonder if some memories come from dreams I've had rather than actual experiences.

Recently on a trip to Rome before Christmas--a city I've lived in and visited many times--I realized that the clear image I had of walking by one of the most historically important buildings in the city, and just off of the most important piazzas, was wrong, both in location and orientation.

We all have false memory syndrome. Every one. No one is immune to it.

Indeed, science has proven that the way memory is recorded, it is in the nature of long-term memory to be shaped, not accurate.

So, yes. What I saw in the grassy knoll is suspect.

My Grandfather once commented on another man in our town that 'he had such a good memory that he remembered things that never happened.'

He probably got it from Twain.

Thought I was alone in this, good to know I'm wrong.

While my imagination isn't the most vivid, I do it so much that I have a a total of mayb 3 times remembered doing something only to realize that I had not done the thing yet. I remember one time I thought I had brought an extra tshirt only to realize I had only imagined getting it and didn't actually get it 😝.
