Have you ever done 'black face'?

In the light of recent revelations of Trudeau's mulitple instances of 'black face', I wondered if anyone else has ever dressed up as another ethnicity by donning black/yellow/white/blue face or whatever.

Perhaps for a party, Halloween, a play, or purely to cause offence?

Never blackened up, i have worn a Nazi uniform though.

I played a Nazi in the school production of The Sound Of Music, i kept the uniform for home use. *|*
 
Im not sure that's a thing normal people do. For some reason it seems like it's a frat house thing.

I sometimes dress up as an alien from another Galaxy. Is that still ok?

I don't think I know anyone that's done blackface. Cross dressing is the big thing around here for Halloween. :lol:

I remember The Black and White Minstrel Show; it was embarassingly bad even back then.

Lenny Henry got his first big break in that show if I recall correctly.

However I have a Black friend who for a Halloween party dressed up as Tiger Woods, while his wife--also Black--did "white face" as Woods' estranged wife, Elin Nordegren--complete with the golf club the latter used to bash him. This was done soon after the scandal unfolded.

Very clever.

Sadly no i just stood in the background looking gay, i do have a lovely voice though.
 
Speaking of "white face", a few years ago LA Opera mounted a new production of Mozart's Magic Flute (an opera I love, but a production I don't particularly like) in the style of a black-and-white silent film of the 20's. All of the characters are in white face. In its opening run, the hero Tamino was played by a Black tenor in white face like all of the other singers. The director, Barrie Koskie is nothing if not perverse in his tastes, so I'm sure he enjoyed the irony.

Oh no it isn't. He's been a major fuck up since day one. The name and a cute face only get you so far in politics, you walk the walk to succeed. Unlike Americans, Canadians have no loyalty to any party or their Creed, you mess up and you're done, as I suspect this whiner kid is.

It was very different times and all sorts of people changed their appearance for comic effect. It didn't make them racists then
Now, of course, it would be just tasteless at best
 
This is the first Ive heard about it. I watch US news. Thats disappointing

Black face was on an 2 part episode of All in the Family (Gloria has a baby). Yup, thats Sam The Butcher (Brady Bunch) in black face
