Yes I've ridden horses, mules, cows, a goat, an elephant and even a camel but never a donkey!

Just got back from a trip to the Middle East; rode donkeys, camels, and horses at various times, particularly while in Jordan. I've ridden an elephant before; hurt like hell when I finished (the straddle required for an elephant is far greater than a donkey, horse, or camel).

The camel ride through the desserts of Jordan was actually one of the smoothest rides of all the animals.

I have the feeling that "rode" is correct English yet feel that "ridden" is the appropriate word to use.

I have ridden a horse once, in Costa Rica, it was one of the most wonderful experiences in my life.
