Have you ever worked a graveyard (night) shift as your regular shift?

Do/did you enjoy it?

i worked around the clock for years. i changed shifts every week, 8am-4pm, 4pm to midnight, midnight to 8am. it sucked. i loved the job i was doing, but humping the clock kept me tired and irritable. midnights were the worst, i felt like i never slept enough.

Have always preferred swing and grave yard. If God hadn't meant for man to work nights he/she wouldnt have made stars and moons and dusks and dawns.

Morning starts about 1130-1330 in an organized and sane universe.

Loved it. I worked the graveyard at K-Mart once and our supervisor was ridiculous. We used to smoke constantly and go flat bed sledding. All we really had to do was make sure we didn't mess the place up. Our only duties were to move items and shelves around.

Yes, I worked graveyard for three years to pay for college. I was the admissions interviewer in an hospital ER, 11pm --7 am. It paid for my college.

Like it, no, but it was necessary.

I did. I'm convinced that not seeing the sun for much of my life during those years really changed my level of mental health, frankly. Not permanently, but certainly while I was doing it. My sensitivity to circadian rhythms is pretty hair-trigger though.

Funny story about graveyard shift.......Well it was funny to me anyway.

Early in my airline career I was on the graveyard shift in the Call Center at Western Airlines Reservations.

An East coast call came in from New York and the caller wanted info about
flights to Hawaii. Did all the schedule and cost stuff then she asked what I knew about the islands.

I told her I wasn't a travel agent but was pretty familiar and would be happy to try and answer her questions. We did well regarding hotels and beaches, night spots et cetera. It was slow and no calls waiting so I enjoyed the conversation.

Then she asked me about ground transportation inter (between) islands. At first i thought I misunderstood her but when she asked if the bus or the subway was better to go from Oahu to Maui.....well I lost it. Fell off my chair in hysterics, my 'tub mate' had to finish the call.#-o

i worked 2nd and 3rd shifts for 14 years ... graveyards were at least half of that time ... so 7 years ....

i didn't like the shifts, particularly .... it was what was available ... and it allowed me some additional years at college ( i was there a loOOng time) ...

but i don't care for most peoples' concept of a "regular day job" either ... my fav shift lately has been 9:30 am to 6:00 pm ...

I had several overnight jobs while going to college. I was bashed once going to work. The place was in a gay bar area and homophobes cruising the area yelled, leaned out of the car and struck me with a pipe. The incident made no sense to be until after I came out and put what had happened into a new context.

I worked the midnight to 6:30am shift twice, for a total of about two years. Despite being a morning person by nature, oddly, I didn't mind it much.

I pick up overtime doing midnights on the weekend 9:30pm-8am.. it is nice.. do not usually take a call between 2-8.. just chill and read my book

Holy shit man. I'm sorry to hear about that, that's fucked up.

I was offered a night shift recently - 3 AM till 11 AM, free breakfast and taxi included, higher pay. I declined it because I just got through another Canadian winter and the last thing I need is to be up mostly when it's dark out again. I declined it and was offered the day shift I wanted in the beginning - called their bluff, it worked.

I worked nights for five and a half years. Did you find it started to mess with your head a bit?

Yes i work the night shift currently at a factory. I even like it! Everyone is always like why are you always in a good mood? I tell them i'm glad to be working lol.

I love graveyard shifts. It's just kind of weird going out for drinks after work and realizing it's 7:00 am for other people and you're getting drunk.

Sure have. I drove cab on the night shift (4pm to 4am) for years and years before I went on the road.I always enjoyed dealing with ''night people'' much better than day people.During the day,you we're dealing with bitchy blue hairs and pissed off businessmen late for appointments..

At night, people were much more relaxed. They weren't pissed like they are at 3pm.The only drawback to driving cab in the middle of the night was the nasty drunks and the people doing dope rounders(round trips to their dealer and back home.)Some of them pissed away all their money at the bar or didn't have enough to cover their fare.Oh well.

The cool guys I met more than made up for the occasional surly drunk that figured it was your fault he couldn't get laid..

When I drove truck over ther road, many times I would drive all night to get to the reciever. In many ways I much preferred it to driving days. There was hardly any traffic, most of the asshole truckers were in a truckstop playing on their c.b.'s ,the scales were usually closed, and you could just ride and knock back some miles. In the morning all the ''solar powered'' truckers would be back on the road, and the truckstops would be wide open, plenty of parking,no waits for showers or a table at the restauraunts..

These days I occasionally work nights, well till 2am anyways. But I try to avoid it as much as possible.Driving around a yard isn't thesame and when my shift is over, I wanna get the fuck outta there.

Unhealthy??? Hell,

less stress

fewer crowds

Shank of the day to enjoy and savor...

oh yes, mellow is an unhealthy state of mind.

You and your friends have to create your own hustle and bustle,

no traffic, no long lines, all the businesses and offices open for

your convenience. Blood pressure city for sure.

Yes that is true but one upside to that is that our Fridays are Thursday night. So we have all day Friday off to get wasted, so we can start early. I love it tomorrow is my last day of work this week and everyone else will be just getting to work lol! I have all day to ponder on what to do for the weekend :lol::gaysex:

When I go on a job, I usually don't know what shift I will be working until the first week of training (You can only imagine the training classes nuclear workers have to go through!). So far this year, I am on my 3rd power plant and I will be working "D" shift which is 9:30pm to 7:30am. I've been on "D" shift for every job so far this year! I like night shift because it is usually quieter (no big wigs running around) and parking is a lot better! I don't go on shift until this Monday night. It's tough trying to revert back to a "normal" sleep schedule when the job is complete.
