I've know a couple of people who were small plane pilots. One was the lover of someone I knew in college. I don't know if he's still flying, but they are still together. The other was a man that I knew in my teens. They were sort of a religious couple, and the guy had a "God is my Copilot" license plate on his car. I also met an 18 year old on a train once, who was going to a college in Florida that specializes in training commercial airline pilots. I never made a special trip to do that when I saw a kid, since it wasn't the sort of thing my mother would have considered worth a 40-minute drive to the airport. But I liked doing it when I had the chance.

I still like doing it. It's still not worth a special trip, but when I worked in a neighborhood that was under the flight path into LaGuardia on some days, I'd stop and look whenever I was outside. And I get a bit of a scary-thrill when going past Newark Airport on the New Jersey Turnpike, because sometimes it looks like the plane is going to land on top of you on the highway instead of on the runway on the other side of the fence.

Nothing I'd describe as similar to a bathhouse, but 10 or 15 years ago (there are still some now, but not so many) New York City had a lot of storefront places that offered Chinese-style qi gong massage. Not my favorite massage style, but one afternoon my shoulders were very stiff and sore, and I stopped in at one of those places because it was on the way to where I was going later. There were none of the massage chairs I've usually seen for qi gong; beyond the reception desk, it turned out the place just had a bunch of single beds (not massage tables) separated by curtains, and a mostly-flutes instrumental version of "Hotel California" was on endless loop on the loudspeakers.
