Have you ever...

I don't think I have that I can remember, because by nature I'm non confrontational. That's not to say it doesn't happen. Some years ago I was shocked when a friend yelled a vicious slur at a lesbian woman.Yes, he was a gay man. It bothered me for several days, and it colored my view of this person.

Have you ever smoked cigarettes? If so, did you quit, or do you still smoke?

Answering the previous question, I kicked some friends out of my house once for repeatedly using the N word after I asked them to stop.

No. I have never smoked. Both my parents smoked when I was growing up, but I thought it was dirty, nasty, and stunk. They say kids who have parents who smoke, usually grow up to smoke themselves. But not me. I always hated smoking. Even though my mom quit in 1971, I had to watch her die from COPD a few years ago as a long term result of smoking. Nothing good comes from smoking.

Have you ever made your own pizza totally from scratch, crust and all? How did it turn out?

No, I haven't. When I worked at Domino's Pizza in a previous lifetime, I had to put cheese and ingredients on pizzas, but I never learned how to flatten the dough out for the crust, let alone make it from scratch.

Have you ever started a business or run it yourself, either alone or with partners?

I once tried to start a side business with a dial-in BBS in the pre-internet days. BBS=Bulletin Board System. It was more for fun really, but I was hoping to make a little extra money from it. It didn't last very long because everyone was starting to go to the internet. It was around 1995 or so.

Have you ever been on jury duty?

I have been called for jury duty several times, but I have never been selected for a trial. More than once THE issue has come up in the jury screening. For instance, about 30 years ago they had us fill out questionnaires, and then come back the next day. Some of the answers I gave were indicators of my sexuality. This was in Palm Beach County. Back in those days there seemed to be a sort of a general understanding among the local establishment to allow people to quietly remain in the closet. You know, there were (and no doubt still are) many elderly closeted wealthy gay men on Palm Beach who inherited Mother's fine china. Anyway, one of the attorneys started questioning me about one of those things on the questionnaire, when the judge called both counsels up to the bench and they had a long pow-wow, over 10 minutes or so. Mind you, nothing was really said, so I'm sure all the other people in the jury pool had to be wondering what the hell was going on.

Did you ever a best friend, or perhaps more than one best friend that you were close to when growing up (as opposed to "friends")? Do you still keep in contact, or even know where they are?

Yes, I had a best friend from age 12 to 18. We are still good friends, we meet 3-4 times a year and we call each other on our birthdays.

Have you ever had a girl trying to seduce you? What did you do?

Yes. When I was 15 I was waiting for a ride at high school late, and no one was around. This girl that I didn't know came up to me and became physically amorous with me. Being the dumb kid I was, I figured I could try anything once, and responded in kind. I remember feeling her breasts through her top. Then my father drove up and it was over. I didn't get too far with that, and in retrospect I'm glad.

There was another incident when I was 24 and worked at J. C. Penney. Looking back on it, I think a gay guy and a girl decided to have a contest to see who could seduce me. One afternoon the girl came up to me in the stock room and started talking to me, and touched my hand with hers. I didn't know how to respond to that because I knew that wasn't in the cards. And then another day the guy started talking to me, and asked if I wanted to move in with him. I think he meant as lovers. I didn't respond to that because it was way too far ahead in the game, since I didn't know him well. If he just asked me out on a date or even just to go out someplace together I Probably would have said yes.

Have you ever had a sexual thought or urge that you had trouble with, because you thought it was wrong or you shouldn't have those feelings (sharing details is optional)?

FUCK! I knew I shouldn't have asked this question. I got another jury summons in the mail today! I've been called more than a dozen times. I've had to sit on four trials.

That was my entire childhood, teenage years, and most of my adulthood thanks to the Catholic Church.

Have you ever thrown away something you haven't used in years because you thought you would never again want it; but then needed or wanted it a few months later? That has happened to me a lot lately.

I can't think of anything I've regretted throwing away that I've never used after keeping it for keeping it for that long. My problem is that I'm a pack rat, which is compounded by the fact that both my parents were even worse pack rats, and I inherited all their junk. I mean, who needs an electric bill or bank statement from 1965? I've been shredding old documents, but it seems I've hardly made a dent in the mess.

As for jury duty, I can't tell you how to get out of it, but you can probably avoid getting selected for a jury by giving strange and wacky answers to the attorneys' questions. They'll be afraid of putting a loose cannon on deck, So far I've avoided getting selected simply by giving honest answers, without fibbing or embellishing.

Have you ever been attracted to bad boys? Did you get into trouble because of it?

Oh my yes. Awful. But I thankfully haven't had a drink now for 22 1/2 years.

Have you ever had your house broken into?

Thankfully no.

Have you ever had a teacher that you were convinced had it out for you?

Yes. I had a professor and especially the teaching assistant in Geology Field Camp in college, when we spent a couple of months out West. For some reason they seemed to have the attitude that I wasn't "pulling my weight," whatever that meant. I could see it in their generally condescending attitudes toward me, and their pushing me to do more chores and physical work than the other students. I'm not sure why, perhaps they thought I wasn't "man" enough (I wasn't "out" with them) or perhaps they thought I was being standoffish and stuck-up, not realizing that if I was that way, it was due to a lifetime of attacks, trauma, and abuse. It was another chapter in losing self-respect due to the long history of me being made to feel inadequate and unable to defend myself. Looking back on it, I probably should have told them I was dropping the course, to put me on the next Greyhound Bus back to Florida, and that I was filing a complaint with the university. Mind you, they didn't seem to have it in for me grade wise, but more on a personal level.

Have you ever liked a song, movie, etc., but were embarrassed to admit it, because it seemed silly, even though the silliness may have been why you liked it?

No, I dont' think so.

Have you ever watched a movie, TV series, etc. and didn't like it at all, even though people were crazy about it?

Yes. I had that sort of reaction to American Horror Story. It seemed too over the top with all its incidents and happenings,

Have you ever made a major move, such as across the nation or to another country, out of the blue, because you decided that you couldn't stand to be where you were?

Can't say that I have. I love where I am and only a twister could get me to up sticks.

Have you ever lived in an area with high crime activity?

Yes. it wasn't bad in the beginning, but the neighborhood went south quickly. Had to get out of there and move to the burbs.

Where would you live if you had your choice?

I really liked California when I went out there several years ago. I'd want to move there if I weren't already retired and didn't own the house I live in. There is so much out there, and I could see myself taking short trips, weekend trips, and day trips to see all the different places in the state.

Have you ever felt that there was someone on Just Us Boys that you couldn't stand? (names not necessary)

I could share a couple of names of posters I can't stand on every other site I post on, but none here on JUB. That's why I like it here so much. :)

Have you ever met a fellow JUBBER in real life for either a hook-up or platonic encounter?

No, I haven't, but there are lots of JUBBERS in Florida; in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, within an hours drive, and a couple more in Orlando and Tampa, a 3 or 4 hour drive. Also there are others I'd like to meet in other places if I ever start traveling again. I figure that I'll meet a couple or a few when the time is right. It seems that I saw something about a JUB meet-up in Orlando that took place several years ago on here.

Have you ever had your driver's license suspended or revoked, or simply stopped driving for a time or permanently, for whatever reason? Or perhaps you never got a driver's license at all?
