Have you seen a theatre production with any “big” celebrities?

I have got to see quite a few with well known theatre names, but I don’t remember them.

I have however seen:

Mickey Rooney and Jo Anne Worley in “The Wizard of Oz” (I got to meet her after the show, but I still don’t know what she is really known for.)
Richard Thomas in 12 Angry Men
Topol in Fiddler on the Roof (his retirement tour)
And
Estelle Parsons in August: Osage County

Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Liv Ullman.

It was PHENOMENAL!!!!

And if you're wondering, that's Joel Edgerton looking uber-buff as Stanley.

i saw August: Osage County in LA, and Estelle Parsons was ridiculously amazing, but that's the only real celebrity i've seen on stage.

I am about to go up to D.C. to see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Paige in Follies at the Kennedy Center.

I've seen many, many original Broadway productions over the last 40 years:

Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl
Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey in Hello Dolly
Michael Crawford in Phantom of the Opera
Elaine Paige in Cats
Patti Lupone in Evita, revivals of Anything Goes and Gypsy, and the London production of Sunset Boulevard
Bernadette Peters in Mack and Mabel
Ethel Merman in a revival of Annie Get Your Gun
Elaine Stritch in Company
Angela Lansbury and George Hearn in Sweeney Todd

and a host of others.

Damn! You have got to see a lot with Broadway royalty.

It was a good show, but a bit odd. She was great as usual though.

I have to admit I didn’t know that Cate Blanchett did theatre. In fact I don’t know much about her at all besides she was in LOTR.

I am also embarrassed to say I have no idea who Joel Edgerton is. If he is known for theatre work that would be why.

His chest is much more attractive than his head.

I have seen Judy Davis who's quite fine on screen but looks and walks like Jabba the Hut on stage.

I forgot. I also saw “Grease” with the Taylor guy from American Idol. He was in it for like one minute. Then after the show he sang a few of his songs. My friend I went with wasn’t happy. We both thought he was playing Danny because of the ads.

WOW! I am officially jealous. That's an awful lot of great actors originating some great great roles!

Cate Blanchett is actually very passionate about theatre. She actually started out her career on the Australian stage before landing some Aussie TV shows, films and striking it big in Hollywood after Elizabeth. She and her husband - Andrew Upton - are the current creative directors of Sydney Theatre Company.

Hoping to see her on stage again very soon!

Joel Edgerton is known to the Aussies mostly - he's done some stage, some Aussie TV and films. I had misgivings about him taking a role like Stanley against a powerhouse like Blanchett but, he held his own. What can I say?

Carol Channing

Katherine Hepburn

Mickey Rooney

Many lesser stars...

Almost everyone is a lesser star when considered in the same breath as Katharine Hepburn!

Her "Little Women" is definitive. As is "Bring Up Baby" and "Holiday". Just brilliant.

What did you see her in? 'Coco"?

It would have been wonderful to have seen her in that. Or anything else for that matter! :D

I wish I would have had the chance to do the same. She was one of my favorites growing up.

Likewise. She and Bette Davis. Would have loved to have seen them onscreen together but it never happened. Davis begged begged begged her studio to let her do a cameo in Hepburn's "Mary of Scotland" but they refused.

I Saw....

Lou Diamond Phillips in The King and I

Melissa Gilbert in Little House on the Prairie: the Musical

George Wendt in The Odd Couple

and

Diana DeGarmo in 9 to 5

I've seen Glenda Jackson as 'Hedda Gabler', Judy Davis as 'Lulu', Judi Dench as Titania ('The Dream'), Cate Blanchett (Richard III) and Joan Sutherland ('Lucia', 'Lakme' etc)

I almost got to see George Wendt in 12 Angry Men, but he moved on to another show right before it came to Oregon.

So many superranuated movie has-beens are dragged in to be a box-office draw.
They need a microphone to speak and they shuffle instead of dance.
It just exposes the fact that most 'movie stars' have 'charisma' but no real acting skills.

I saw Donny Osmond in Joseph.
I've seen Bebe Neuworth (sp?) in Addams Family
Chenoweth / Mendzel and Joey McIntyre in Wicked

I went back to check on some of the shows I saw in Seattle in the '80's...

I caught two AMAZING dancers, Donald O'Connor and the great Anne Miller.

Also the British invasion guy Peter Noone and James Belushi (who was unbelievably good) in The Pirates of Penzance.

Also Debbie Boone and, another time, Diana Rigg (a great FAV of mine!).
