Giant kitties are so cute. <3 I bet their breath smells bad.

Actually, after dissecting a cat and inspecting it's tongue and the combed bristles on it, it makes me afraid to get licked by a big jungle cat.

Cute, sure...........!

..........But, folks these animals are "WILD" and they should NOT be treated as house pets and cuddled, etc......

A wild animal has been known to attack women when they are on their period, because the males are thinking "mating" and therefore go for them!

......and for NO reason what-so-ever...........!!!

Man, I can just see the caption when the wild animal suddenly turns "wild animal" and attacks the poor woman and shreds her to pieces.....

Please, DO NOT try and domesticate wild animals, they belong in the Wild and NOT in cages!(*8*) (*8*)

when i saw that i thought "bigger kitty equals bigger hugs".....i know it is dangerous, but that woman really cared for that lion, and the lion knew her well enough that it was confortable with it. the lady rescued the lion from some shit hole, and cared for it. if anybody knew it was safe to do, it was her.

I suppose depending on how the animal was reared...

It might actually be quite friendly towards humans.

Judging by the way this one acts, I'd opt that it probably is.

However, that's no reason to drop one's guard around such a creature...

Saw it on the telly .... it was so cute. I've always wanted a lion or a tiger for a pet ... they are the most majestic animals ever!

My cat just looks at me with disgust when I give her a hug and a kiss.

New years resolution, ditch the cat for a lion and recieve better hugs. :D

Joy Adamson, a German national, lived and worked in Kenya in the 1950's and 60's alongside her husband, who was a game warden at the time.

They actually adopted three young female lion cubs after their mother was killed by poachers, sent two off to zoos in Europe, and kept one, naming her Elsa, and rearing her on their ranch.

I read the three books which came from that experience, starting with "Born Free"; it became a hit movie, and was my first attempt at a long "adult" book. My mother chose it for me to read in fifth grade, after I had picked "The Andremeda Strain".

Wild animals are wild. They, like us, recognize their pride, or pack, or den. In this case, the woman was one of his pride, and therefore loved and repsected by the animal.

There was a thread recently where one of our members adopted a dog which, for years, had been neglected by its owner.

Thankfully, there are many people here who respect, love and admire wildlife. ..|

^^Joy Adamson was, in fact, murdered by an employee who was accused of a felony (I do not recall what it was).

Her husband was murdered by poachers.

I felt sorry for the way their lives ended, after their inspirational real-life story.

Two of my friends died violent deaths two years ago, and thankfully, it has not diminshed the happy memories I have of them, and I hope the same can be said for the Adamsons.

Excellent thread, by the way--thanks! ..|

People in Cali, Colombia, are shocked to see the bond between a large African lion and a woman who saved it from abuse, involving long, affectionate kisses and hugs between the pair.

Ana Julia Torres, who runs the Villa Lorena animal shelter in Cali, fed and nursed Jupiter the African lion back to health years ago after it was found abused and emaciated in a traveling circus.

"It is amazing to see an animal like that be so sweet and affectionate," said Torres. "This hug is the most sincere one that I have received in my life."

Torres, 47, said her work rehabilitating animals began more than a decade ago when a friend gave her an owl that had been kept as a pet.

Later, when she asked her students to bring their pets to school, she realized many families illegally kept wild fauna from Colombia's biologically diverse jungles in their homes.

The number of animals under her care grew, and now Jupiter is among 800 recovering creatures at Villa Lorena, where Torres looks after, among others, burned peacocks, limbless flamengos, blind monkeys and mutilated elephants.

Most of the animals are caged, though some, like iguanas, roam freely around the grounds of the shelter, which are enclosed by a 13-foot wall.

Torres said she relies on donations and her modest teacher's salary to run the shelter.

"We dedicate our lives to the care of these animals without one single peso from the state," Torres said.

Torres said many of the animals were rejected as infants by their parents in the wild or found abandoned on the streets of Cali.

Torres said because she opposes exhibiting animals in circuses, she decided to keep her shelter closed from the public.
