^ Watched S4 episode 2. That whole thing w/ the Queen makes me want to scream.

Every time I think I can't dislike Bill's shady ass anymore than I already do, it just gets worse. I. Can't.

Eric on the other hand, somehow always pulls on my heart strings even though he gets on my nerves/creeps me out a lot. I lol'd when he got his ass handed to him this ep. But then I got sad. His ~lost little boy~ face. ;__;

GIVE ME MORE OF LAFAYETTE AND JESUS'S WITCH COVEN STORYLINE PLZ. It's so badass.

Why are they still trying to make us believe that Sookie and Tara are super close BFFs? Sookie does not give a shit about Tara. The girl spent nearly all last season getting abducted and raped and Sookie was basically like "oh whatevs."

WTF @ Jason's cracked-out situation. lmfao

DUDE, I've been saying that since season 2. Sookie and Tara are like two different characters on different shows. They are barely ever together to do anything, until they coincidentally end up in the same room and remember that they are supposed to be best friends. Their friendship is so crappy, i can't stand it.

I love the fact that Tara reinvented herself. I'm not sure where her lesbian thing is going to go, but honestly you guys I thinks it's HOT! So fucking hot, but her gaudy green bra ruined it that seen.

I like Bill in this season. In the past two seasons he was like my least favorite, but him becoming King and the whole back story behind it made him a lot more epic in my book. He's a lot cooler this season, but I hate the way he was acting towards Sookie. I mean he's supposed to be her "true" love and it really seems like he doesn't really care about her that much.

Crystal can go die now. I don't like her at all anymore. Hope Jason doesn't become a were panther. Were-panthers are lame. Apparently were-wolves are supposed to be the strongest of the Shifters. Shifters are born shifter btw.

The whole Faery thing I'm looking forward to the most.

Lafayette what ever he is(witch, warlock, whatever) is one of my favorite characters in the series and when i found out he was supposed to be dead after season 1, I was so happy he stayed alive. The show would have gotten kind boring. He's the only one who really makes me laugh. In real life he's straight by the way. i wonder how all of their spouses feel about the stuff they have to act out on the show.

Oh and is it me or did everyone look a little different. I mean i know humans age and all, but Eric, Pam, Jesus and some others look like they have a lot more wrinkles than last season. They were all really attractive. Maybe it's the HD or something. At the same time I noticed some people have gotten more attractive like Sookie and Bill. I don't know maybe it's just me.

^ I don't hate Tara.

Tara used to annoy me in the earlier episodes of S1. She was such a stereotype (initially) of a loud, neck-rolling angry black woman. That made me cringe, tbh.

But I've grown to like her since they've moved away from that. Although she's constantly being put beaten up psychologically/emotionally with all the crap she's put through, she's actually one of my favorites on the show. She always stands up for herself and her loved ones.

Sookie on that other hand is a full-on, self-centered bitch most of the time. She treats the world and everyone in it like it revolves around her. But for some reason Tara is the one who gets all the hate and is accused of being obnoxious.Gimme a break. lol

She's not one of my favs, but I do love her. I find it funny how she's always in a pickle like, what's the worst that could happen? Also, I thought her relationship with Franklin was kind of hot, I wish he would've stayed on the show.

I said it before on here, but I really hope Jason's story line becomes more interesting 'cause right now I'm totally yawning at these werepanthers.

Pam is my favorite female character, followed by Jessica, then Tara, then Arlene.

I know Sookie is the show's anchor but the character gets a bit exhausting at times.

As far as Tara's lesbian relationship, if she really was just trying to reinvent herself and not actually be bisexual, her relationship would not have lasted like it has. Her and her girlfriend are obviously close (living together and whatnot), and if she really was just trying it out it would not have lasted and developed trust me.

Hey, during the confrontation between Eric and the coven, when Marney was casting her spell, does anyone know whose face it was that flashed in and out? Was it another woman, or a young man? Was it someone from Eric's past, or someone we have yet to meet?

I thought it was Godric....I should watch it again.

While the first three years of the show make it feel like some characters' arcs have taken too long to develop, viewers have to remember that all three took place back to back without any time passing at all between seasons. Even within seasons, not much time had passed. Some estimates online are that the whole series up to now has happened in a matter of a few months. Arlene's still in her first trimester towards the end of season three.

So for those who complain about Tara's development, well, pick any three months out of your adult life and figure out how much you changed significantly in that time. :) And as far as she and Sookie not feeling much like best friends, best friends often drift apart a little when just one of them is suddenly in a new and passionate relationship. In their cases, they both fell in love during a short span of time; further complicating their lives is everything around them going batshit crazy after the revelation of all the supernatural creatures they never knew existed.

Also keep in mind that this is probably the first time in their lives they've ever kept things from each other. Sookie purposefully works hard not to read her loved ones, and with Tara, there wasn't much need to anyway, considering how close they were growing up. Once things become chaotic though, Tara especially begins to keep secrets from Sookie (shagging Sam being just one example).

I loved the sequence at the end of Season 3 where Tara, who arguably is one of the smartest characters in the series, has her moment of realizing just how warped everything around her is. Her cool and calm manner when she greets Sookie in Season 4 shows her love for her friend, but it's not a desperate kind of love anymore--she has a life that does not depend upon nor revolve around the Stackhouses now. For Sookie, only a day or so has passed; for Tara, it's been a year in which she has discovered new parts of herself.

It makes a great deal of sense that Tara is a lesbian, or at least bisexual. Her first great crush was on Jason, whom she could never have. Her sex with Sam was primal and raw, but she couldn't develop the emotions for him that could bring her happiness. Eggs--well, that was complete chaos. She once again makes a bad sexual decision about Franklin and ends up emotionally and physically brutalized. Her one great love her whole life has been her best friend, Sookie, and when they both begin making bad decisions about men, they begin to have what is apparently their first big fights. I've watched similar things happen to friends who were seemingly hetero but then began to accept their lesbianism and their attachments to their best friends.

Or maybe Tara is not a lesbian now, and this is another way for her to act out her sexual needs with someone she's destined to not be able to stay with. She's already lying to her partner about who she is and what her past is, so that could fit as well. Even with her newfound growth, she's perhaps still living out those old patterns of chaos. It's certainly realistic.

Whatever the case, I have a deep platonic love for Rutina Wesley. Some of her scenes in Season One with Tara's mother still break my heart when I watch them.

I think you're very right about Tara's sexuality. Every relationship she had with guys before didn't go well. So this may actually be who she really is.
I still don't like it b/c he perpetuates the myth that many straight people have, especially for lesbians, that women choose to become lesbians after having traumatic experiences with men. That lesbians are just confused and damaged women. And that is an awful message to send.

I was wondering, since Jason and Sookie are brother and sister wouldnt Jason be part fairy as well?
or maybe hear thoughts like Sooks or have microwave hands??

btw found a fun recap/commentary podcast on this show
in Itunes search for "sista speaks true blood" two funny black women discuss the plots

So will HBO keep releasing episodes in advance through HBO Go? I hate how I watched 2 episodes in one week, it's always something I look forward to on Sundays and this week I have no new episode to watch.

That was exactly why I didn't watch episode 2 ahead of time. Other shows I watch have done that before as well but didn't do it again after that and I wasn't sure if TB would do the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong, people who have read the books, but I remember someone saying during last season that in the books Jason's 'power' is that he is irresistible to woman or something like that as a result of the fairy blood in his body.

He who? I hope you aren't referring to me. My analysis of Tara's sexuality is certainly not a perpetuation of that myth. Her relationship with Sam was not traumatic; it was merely doomed because she could not let him get close. The "trauma" with Eggs was not because of Eggs, but Marianne.

My point was that Tara may have sought out men she can't have or can't have emotional intimacy with without chaos because she is a lesbian, not that she is a lesbian because she comes from chaos. It's true that adults who experienced child sexual abuse may have confusion as to their orientation in adulthood, sometimes switching back and forth between genders. This does not make them bisexuals, however; it speaks more to their attraction to chaos than to any particular gender. We don't have any evidence that Tara was sexually abused, although she was definitely physically abused by her mother. That chaos relationship is more likely to blame for her inability to trust others even with being intimate with them.

If Tara is a true lesbian, then that, coupled with her history of physical abuse, is what most likely led her to her failed relationships with men. it would be no different than a gay man who continues trying to have relationships with women, but who ultimately embraces his true orientation once he realizes what has been lacking in all of his relationships so far.

And it's necessary to point out that women do seem slightly more likely to entertain the possibility of a same sex affair after bad experiences with men than men are after bad experiences with women. This does not necessarily make them lesbians, but simply more fluid in their attractions.

We'll have to see where Ball takes this storyline and how Tara develops as a character. Either she's been a lesbian all along and has just now come to the realization of it, or she's just heading down another chaotic road. The one thing we can bank on is that whatever her orientation, she won't be allowed to be happy for long. As will none of the other characters.

That sucks, just when it got better as I was starting to doubt season 4. At least Ru Paul's drag u is on, not a huge fan of the Drag U but my fav drag queens on there so you know.

Just to clarify on my behalf, I thought he meant Alan Ball/the show writers' take on why Tara is involved in a same-sex relationship, now. In interviews, they're basically like "well she just wanted a new identity after being traumatized, so she turned gay, lulz." Rutina Wesley has tried to take a more subtle approach by saying that Tara might simply be exploring her sexuality.

IMO, your take on it is more nuanced. But I don't think they'll have time to deal w/ these kinds of complexities on True Blood. The show is too campy and it'll probably just come across all wrong. That's why I'm concerned about this particular storyline.

That's really disappointing if Ball and/or the writers are treating it that way. The character, and the viewers, deserve something more than a gimmick. ](*,)

I don't get it...why can't they take Sookie and drain her of her blood? What's stopping them?

Well, she does have that "powerball" of light she throws at them from time to time.

I agree though, if her blood is THAT damn desirable and she's one of the few faeries left on earth...
