HD DVD vs. Blue Ray

You're not getting the picture. Stop thinking about a single movie on a disc. Start thinking an entire Television Season on one disc instead of 7. No more huge collection of box sets. Want all 8 seasons of a show? Great, get the 8 BR disc box set and you're done. Not to mention that's revolutionary in size for data storage, u've got to remember these discs aren't just used for movies, they're used for computers too. Who wants a 14Gb disc when you can have a 300Gb disc? Not me.

Damn, I think I love you! :D

MMM, but you forget that people buy into marketing, not what's the best for their situation. While a hard drive system/recorder is certainly the best up and coming option, i doubt it will take off b/c people are so engrained with this idea of interchangable discs and such.

And of course the price for players will fall eventually. A BR player used to cost $1099, now they're selling for $699 in some stores (in the U.S. that is). And eventually they will fall far lower than that.

They're are currently 2 types of commercially available BR discs, 25Gb, and 50Gb discs. However by mashing to 50Gb layers together, they've already made 100Gb BR discs that will be available soon. And they're also developing 150Gb disc by using triple 50Gb layers. Now the 300Gb disc is just in development, made by mashing 2 150Gb layers. While not nearly available yet, it will be at some point.

But honestly, it may not matter at all who wins. Hybrid players have already become a reality. And at the tech expo a few weeks ago in california, a relatively afordable Hybrid player was unveiled. Soon they too will fall in price when they become more commercially available, and that may make the format war mute.
