He just came out to me and I didn't do anything?

I would tell him in person if at all possible. I also wouldn't do it when I was drunk. If you need to have a drink to relax into it, fine, but I wouldn't go over one drink. If you do it when you are drunk it might not be taken as seriously and you can use the fact that you were drunk to deny it.
