Well then I'll modify my comment: If the people who voted for him don't support him now, they're either idiots or hypocrites or plain stupid. They got what they should have known they were voting for if they had half a brain and were paying attention. They should be happy.

Well, many of them are happy in that they didn't get Hillary. But as one neighbor said to me, it's like being Frodo at Mount Doom but without the Ring: you can fall in the fire, or you can run out and be killed by the Nazgul, so either way you're not really going to be happy.

Though as I said to him, I think the whole narrative about being happy is wrong and dangerous, because it suggests we can actually get candidates that are good for us -- when the real situation is that we only get to pick among candidates who are good for the rich and powerful, the 0.02% of the population whose money decides which names can get on the ballot. If we were honest, we'd admit that neither of the choices was likely to make more than perhaps 2% of the nation actually happy; the rest of us were doomed to misery from the start.

Yes. They CAN'T claim that they weren't warned.

Well, OK, they CAN claim that they weren't (because they're able to use a pen-and-paper, or a keyboard, or open their mouth...to form those words), but any such claim would simply be absurd.

And, of course, for some people the warnings were ignored, or just bounced off of them.

With a large number of people, the warnings were seen and understood, but they voted against the greater evil and held their noses. I read daily, multiple times, how relieved people are that we don't have a Clinton in the White House or anywhere in the administration, often in the same statements noting how much Trump is screwing things up. Indeed occasionally I detect an attitude of "better a klutz who never grew up past junior high than a conniving witch". For most people I know, it was a choice between screwing up the country on path A v screwing up the country on path B.

We really need to do what Lawrence Lessig says, and ditch the gatekeeping 0.02%, or we'll just keep getting choices between Evil behind door number one or Evil behind door number two, and sinking farther away from ever recovering our Republic.

In an age of sound bites, and one line tweets self imposed prejudice is blind to the daily round of pitifully awful actions by President Trump and his moronic crew.

It's early days...maybe the American electorate will tire of Trump's mediocre performances sooner, rather than later.

The unfolding catastrophe speaks poorly of the intelligence of those Americans who voted for Trump won over by simplistic, mindless rants calculated to appease the fears, and frustrations of many demanding a return to America's world leadership position in the 1950s.

Tire... or get numb?
