Health News that Trump Doesn't Want You To Know

Texas reported 309 cases as of Friday, up from 279 on Wednesday, now in 13 counties, up from 11.

While you were out having a nice weekend, Texas was adding 18 more cases of measles. The new cases were all in unvaccinated kids.

Texas measles outbreak grows to 327 cases with 18 confirmed infections over last 5 days: Officials

The measles outbreak in western Texas is continuing to grow with 18 cases confirmed over the last five days, bringing the total to 327 cases, according to new data published Tuesday.

Exports from Texas now includes measles- 23 cases in Kansas in 6 counties, now.

Measles cases rise to 23 in Kansas, may be linked to large multistate outbreak

Twenty-three measles cases have been reported in Kansas, and the state health department said they could be linked to an ongoing outbreak that has infected at least 379 people across Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

“The confirmed cases in Kansas have a possible link to the outbreaks in Texas and New Mexico. While genetic sequencing of the first Kansas case reported is consistent with an epidemiological link to the Texas and New Mexico outbreaks, the source of exposure is still unknown,” Jill Bronaugh, communications director for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said in an email Wednesday.

Children account for 21 of the Kansas cases, and 20 of the cases are in people who are unvaccinated.

Local health department officials are saying that they suspect cases are undercounted because parents aren't bringing their children into the clinics to get testing to confirm their infections are measles. A local health food store in Seminole, Texas reports that parents are coming in and buying cod liver oil because RFK Jr said that chlidren should take Vitamin A to treat measles (which is nonsenses).

Saw this coming...

Remedy Supported by Kennedy Leaves Some Measles Patients More Ill

...One of those supplements is cod liver oil containing vitamin A, which Mr. Kennedy has promoted as a near miraculous cure for measles. Physicians at Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, say they’ve now treated a handful of unvaccinated children who were given so much vitamin A that they had signs of liver damage.

Some of them had received unsafe doses of cod liver oil and other vitamin A supplements for several weeks in an attempt to prevent a measles infection, said Dr. Summer Davies, who cares for acutely ill children at the hospital.

“I had a patient that was only sick a couple of days, four or five days, but had been taking it for like three weeks,” Dr. Davies said....

At high doses, vitamin A can cause liver damage; dry, peeling skin; hair loss; and, in rare instances, seizures and coma. So far, doctors at West Texas hospitals have said they’ve seen patients with yellowed skin and high levels of liver enzymes in their bloodwork, both signs of a damaged liver.

So the head of vaccines has been deposed and RFK is bending science toward his warped view. HOW MUCH FUCKING LONGER AMERICA?

Meanwhile, Secretary Brain Worm is cutting 10,000 jobs in the departments that oversee health, disease, epidemics and medication safety in the US - NIH, HHS, FDA, CDC, et al . Included in the cuts are many of the staffers tracking HIV in the US.

Thousands of federal workers were bracing for pink slips Friday as Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. begins dismantling the sprawling federal agency responsible for protecting America's health.

Some 10,000 full-time jobs were on the chopping block as part of the White House’s “reduction in force” plan to effectively shutter or downsize a number of divisions under the HHS umbrella, including virtually eliminating some offices tasked with tackling HIV and improving minority health.

HHS oversees 13 agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health. Overall, the cuts will shrink the health department’s workforce from 82,000 to 62,000 when combined with its earlier layoffs, Andrew Nixon, a senior spokesperson for HHS, said Thursday.
File under, "No shit, Sherlock":
The layoffs add to growing evidence that Kennedy, who tried to strike a moderate tone during his Senate confirmation, is set to pursue an agenda that could radically reshape public health across the U.S.

In the Friday update from the CDC, Texas reported 400 cases. Today, Texas is reporting 422 cases. The consensus is that the actual count is higher because many parents have not been taking their children in for testing and there is currently a delay in reporting of cases.

Colorado reported its first case in an unvaccinated adult who traveled to Mexico.

We've entered the exponential growth period in the measles epidemic. Because the R0 of measles is so high, the growth curve will because increasingly steep, as the virus finds the unvaccinated and immunocompromised hosts in the population. Unfortunately, this will hit the pre-school population the hardest.

Texas reported a total of 505 cases, up from 481 reported on Friday.

When this started in Gaines County, Texas, the assumption was that because the outbreak was in a insular Mennonite communities, that it might be contained. It's become apparent that this is not going to be limited to far West Texas.

Epidemiologists who specialize in measles are not optimistic. There's models that indicate that this will spread across the Southwest until someone with measles gets on a plane or travels to another part of the US, at which time the outbreak will become a national outbreak.

Measles has now been reported in 22 jurisdictions: Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, New York State, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Washington.

The Texas outbreak is now 541 cases (up from 481 cases last). It is now in 22 counties (up from 19 last week).

A doctor from an anti-vaxxer group went to West Texas to provide "treatments" to kids with measles. The doctor now has measles. He was still treating children even though he has an obvious measles rash. People are considered contagious 4 days before their rash developed, so it is likely that he is spreading measles to others.

Texas reported 561 cases today. That's 20 new cases since Friday.

The CDC somehow was allowed to report that they have strong evidence that the measles cases have been underreported.

Meanwhile, Under TrumpCo. the FDA closed the investigation into an E Coli oiutbreak that affected 15 states.

Because, as we know, Trump doesn't want people to know about dangers to the food supply as they gut the agencies in charge of safety of the US food supply.

And then the US gets all pissy when Europe and Canada restrict some agricultural product imports or food treated with bleach.

There is a story in the St. Louis newspaper today, a measles case has been identified in Branson, MO.
This could be really bad. Branson is an anti-vaxx, MAGA hoosier hot-spot.
It appears to be contained at the moment, but for how long?

Hopefully it wasn't someone who was in the crowds at the performance spaces there?

There are not many details, but this is what the story says. It doesn't say if they travelled internationally from here, or to here. Hopefully they have contained it. But...you know. I expect the vaccine rate in Branson is extremely low.

The child, whose vaccination status was not released, had recently traveled internationally, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
“There is no indication of widespread exposure as this person was diagnosed soon after arrival to Taney County. Exposure is believed to be limited, and known contacts have been identified and contacted,” reads the department’s press release.

The case is the first confirmed report of measles in Missouri this year.
