Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight!!!

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

OMG

Dduder and I are in complete agreement.

Did anyone else feel the earth shudder for a second or two.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

No, he isn't. Not even close. As great as Nicholson's characterization was, it deosen't even come close to Ledger's- and I'm a huge Nicholson fan.

Hmmm...prejudice against "effeminate" things. Where have I seen that before? What you are doing is called in psychoanalyses "projection". Look it up.

Seriously, it is a character that is supposed to be bizarely flamboyant. Giving it a few quirks to the voice helps in this characterization. And by the way, I noted nothing feminine about the Joker's voice, only that it was bizarre.
Total agreement. Total, nothing could ever top the performance Ledger gave as the Joker. It left me...I don't know how to describe it.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I liked the movie. But as much as I love Ledger, I'm afraid I can't jump on the bandwagon saying that Heath's Joker is some of the best acting ever. Yes he had his moments, although none of which I would call iconic; most were memorable only because his best moments have been repeatedly shown in the movie's trailers. Maybe as far as comic book villains go, his ranks among the best. If he gets an Oscar nod, good for him, but I would be surprised.
I guess you would have had to have read the comics and seen the Animated Series to understand just how amazing Ledger was as Joker. If you saw and read both, than I just don't get you.

Like someone else mentioned, I also grew tired of Bale's grunting by the end of the movie. Speaking of ending, this movie ending just kind of fizzled. Jokers final scene was anticlimactic; not over the top as one would have expected. It will be interesting how the next Batman movie will deal with Ledger's Joker absence.
The grunting was meh, but it is Batman, he has a different persona he has to take on. And there is only so much you can do with an intimidating voice.

I think thats one of the brilliant things about the movie. Jokers final scene wasn't supposed to be his climax, it had already passed. Although, I do think his final scene was amazing. Everything it should be.

Harvey was just in the way. Like all the Batman movies since the 1992 Batman Returns movie, there's just not enough breathing room in the same movie for more than one antagonist.
The movie wouldn't have been that movie without Harvey Dent personally. I think he was one of the cornerstones of the movie.

Of course you have your opinion. So whatever.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I agree with some that while Heath was pretty darn good, Nicholson is still the better Joker. There was just something weird about the effeminate voice that Heath used. I'd equate it to the effeminate actions that Johnny Depp uses for Willy Wonka or Jack Sparrow. But while those characters are funny, there was just something creepy about the voice Heath used for the Joker.
Hmmmm, no. I mean it is your opinion, but I just have to say it is wrong. Nicholson never once captured the real essence of the Joker. He played some goofy, shitty Joker that just never cut it for me.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

'the dark knight' was easily the best movie i have seen this year. it wasn't so much a 'comic book' movie as it was an 'urban crime drama' or a film about a city under fear of terrorism. the performances from bale, ledger, et. all was simply fantastic.

regarding bale, i just cannot see anyone else playing batman at this point. all the other actors who have done this before could only seem to play one of the two facets of this character, either the batman or bruce wayne. bale does both convincingly.

ledger was breathtaking. there is something compelling about his performance, when he comes on scene you're drawn to him. he is creepy, scary and even funny at times. in fact i felt guilty for finding the humor because what he does in the movie is the stuff of the comics. i see shades of 'arkham asylum,' 'the long halloween' and 'the killing joke.'

kudos have to be made for nolan for both his direction and script (which he co-wrote with his brother). the story itself is brilliant and visually the film had me at the edge of my seat.

for me it was a 4 star movie and i would highly recommend seeing it. i plan on seeing it again and will most definitely make my next viewing at imax!

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

To GL:

Man, your assessment of the movie "IS" over the top and the reason I am waiting for the IMAX theatre to see it....first!!

I find your review even more stimulating than the reviews made by the so-called experts, for you are able to express yourself in "lay-man" terms that we all can ID with and NOT just post a label on the performers and their performances!

I think NOT only did the "locals" here in Las Vegas buy out ALL the tickets; but it seems that even the tourists made it a point to totally buy-out ALL the IMAX tickets as well for the entire week-end! lol

Friends bought tickets last Wednesday for Saturday performances and they waited in line to do it, even then!
I've NOT seen the level of enthusiasm of this movie EVER in my memory; NOT even the so-called record breakers of previous shows!

I know Heath's parents must be extremely proud of their son and knowing the last acting he did on this Earth will be remembered forever and ever and perhaps recognized appropriately via the Academy Awards come next year!

I can hardly to see the movie now that ALL of you folks have expressed such recommendations!

Thanks!!!!(*8*)

I don't know, Nicholson was pretty damn good in the original movie...

But then again, I can always be surprised. :)

i saw it again monday night and it still packed a wallop.

i loved how everyone applauded at the end of the movie. that doesn't happen very often.
