Heaven/Hell

You're not going to get an "answer", when you're defining the terms of the argument in such a way as to exclude the actual data offered. What you're doing amounts to demanding that a mathematician describe a tesseract to you using only two dimensions, and then claiming that there can't be any such things because the properties ascribed to a tesseract just don't work in two dimensions.

...as opposed to say...asking a mathematician to make a theory work by postulating an arbitrary number of extra dimensions to reality, and then stopping once reality fits the theory written down by old proto-christian dissident rabbis with control issues, cribbing from Plato's Republic in an effort to establish a world under the care of the Guardian class.

they are not actual locations. they are states of being.

see that's why I don't believe its an afterlife thing. Its experienced here.

the person in a mental hospital in a straight jacket rocking back and forth is in hell

ANDORYUU said that once, above somewhere.

But if they're "states of being" after death, don't they have to be locations? In order for a being to experience a state of being, he/she/it has to be somewhere, no?

Absolutely not. Is happiness not a state of being? Sadness? Relief? They most certainly are and one does not need to be in some special location to experience any of them.

Think of the state of being as the verb "to be" and consider its conjugations:

I am, you are, he/she/it is, we are, etc.

None of these "states of being" require specific physical locations, only "being."

I didn't say anything about specific locations; my point is that for a being to be experiencing anything at all, it has to have a location. The problem isn't in the verb, it's in the subject.

WOW! The English language is on Trial Here, Now that is Hell. Only Death will show us the locations of Heaven and Hell. There is such a place, just that we cannot concieve the idea in our own thick heads. Heaven and Hell is documented by the Catholic Church by those who experienced the places as actual places.

If you are also one of us thick-headed poor saps who can't conceive of these things, you'll have to forgive me if I don't take your word for it that the Catholic Church has any evidence or anyone at all who has ever been there.

u take their word for it?

Yes, and my dad's uncle wrote about his experience of being Napoleon at the Battle of Austerlitz.

Does it really matter. We're just God and Lucifer's play toys in their sick little war bet for souls.

Even then Heaven sounds to good to be true. Like some Acid trip or long nightmare of brainwashing. Pretty much from what I've been told, in heaven you'll feel no pain just "eternal bliss". You'll forget people that have gone to hell and just be like everyone else. It just doesn't sound to wonderful to me.

Feeling no pain would be excellent but at what cost?

And Hell just sounds so wonderful (Sarcasm alert).

LMAO, there's some funny posts in this thread but this one takes the cake.

By the very nature of its description, the afterlife (assuming any such silly notion exists) is not perceptible by anyone living.

Perhaps, maybe even probably. But an honest person/investigator doesn't dismiss things as "silly" (or "superstititous") off-hand.

Have you never met a ghost?

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)
Chaz ;)

Heaven and Hell are just a state of being and not a real destination and they are used to scare children into behaving a certain way i can remember when i was little my great grandmother who lived in the south telling me if i was bad old scratch would get me. for those of you who aren't from the south that is what southerners back in the day called satan and organized religion is just as false as the old scratch myth.

Heaven's apparently full of religious zealots and Hell is apparently where everyone else (no matter what or who) has to go with all the murderers, rapists etc. Limbo is sounding pretty cool right now...

And boy are those zealots gonna be surprised when the angel near the Pearly Gates is handing out cards saying "lose the attitude at the gate", and Jesus is inside by the pool with a tall glass of Tequila Sunrise, saying, "Kick back and chill". :p
