I saw it a few weeks ago, excellent film. My bet it will be nominated for some academy awards.

Also... the man who played Tony Blair was a dead ringer, he looked and took the park fabulously.

I really wanna see it but I'm afraid I won't understand it because my knowledge of history is quite limited. :(

You should have no trouble at all understanding and enjoying the film. If you feel you lack some information about the subject matter - google/wikipedia on Princess Diana. That is all the "historical information" you might need and that is meant just as a back up.

What you will see, is a truly brilliant Performance by Dame Helen Mirren - THIS IS WHAT THE ART OF ACTING IS ALL ABOUT.

And as for the film itself, superbly produced and directed, in my opinion, on all levels and in all areas.

Dame Mirren deserves ALLLLLLL the AWARDS around - this is a performance that will have no equal, not unless Dame Judi Dench steps forward with one her performances. Then they might cancel each other out, which would really be a tragedy.](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

I saw The Queen yesterday.

Brilliantly understated portrayal by Helen Mirren, and it took me right back to that period of time when everyone was so shocked and grief-stricken by Princess Diana's death.

It's a pity that Judi Dench is nominated for Best Actress this year, if it's for Notes On A Scandal, it will be that much harder for Helen Mirren to win.

And I thought once upon a time only Judi Dench was the only possibe person to act as any Queen.

Remember Whoopi Goldberg's joke at the Oscar - next one would be Judi as Boy George.

I did not laugh. Nor giggle.

I saw it twice! I really loved it. Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen both embodied those current public figures so perfectly. I came away from that movie with a new appreciation for the real Queen.

Michael Sheen was really appealing as Blair. He has this earnest, wholesome quality and is quite attractive. He has a daughter with Kate Beckinsdale.

If Helen Mirren had been our sovereign, we never would have rebelled. :)

I thought it was a great movie with amazing performances from just about everyone except James Cromwell. When I think of the Queen and Tony Blair now, I picture Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen, so that says it all right there - they really nailed it.

I can't wait to see this one. Unfortunately, it's not playing around here--and even if it were, I'm broke until my payouts. You all have me excited all over again to see it!

Well, I was going to post them here but the article is so long and about other movies as well, so I'll do a separate thread re the BAFTA nominations - The Queen got 10, more than any other movie... Oh, and I loved it too! Dame Helen will richly deserve her Oscar, and I hope Sheen at least gets a nomination...

Congratulations to Helen Mirren for winning the Golden Globe for this role (and for winning, coincidentally, another one for playing Elizabeth I on tv).

When I saw The Queen I was of course struck by the symbolism of the stag.

A majestic, dignified creature with less and less place in this modern world, almost hounded out of existence.

i.e., the stag represents the monarchy itself.

Then I thought some more and wondered if the stag couldn't also be seen to represent Diana?

A wild thing of beauty, hunted (even by the royal family) and eventually dying in such a brutal way...

I was really impressed with Helen. At times I forgot that I was watching a movie, and not a real Queen. She was remarkable. The film? Loved it. Planning to watch it again soon.

Yes ok i saw it too and she really was The Queen but the way people are talking you would think it was the performance of the decade.

The academy really needs to see "Little Children" and "Notes On A Scandal" before just handing the oscar to Hellen who is in deed deserving but it should be a 3 way race, Kate, Hellen and Judi Dench not a one woman show IMO.

Btw, before the film, I had no idea that the Queen is capable of driving on her own. Nor that her security was so loose. Hmmm...

Saw Little Children. Kate was wonderful. But Helen holds the higher card.

Just saw it, Helen Mirren was fantastic!

I love the moment when the little girl gives her the flowers. Helen played it perfectly.

I saw it when it first played in the theatre's. Great movie. Helen Mirren was terrific. The Queen and Prince Philip, her husband, were so mean and nasty to Princess Diana according to the movie. The actor who portrayed Tony Blair was very good. He looked like him as well.
