I read all the advice that was given to you...but noticed one important piece of advice that was not given to your price range...try a local pawn shop or tv repair shop...with todays economy ppl are pawning more and more and you can get a good deal..there is a pawn shop near me that sells tv and even warranties them for a few dollars more...I refuse to pay retail on anything so I bargain hunt a lot and have bought my last tv from them 6 yrs ago and it still works great.. plus I saved over $600 from buying a new one...

There is so much rapid development taking place in television technologies, that unless your current TV set has died on you it is wise to wait.

Cathode ray tube television sets are making a come back in more miniaturised sizes, and OLED TV technology is being hyped by Sony and Samsung:

As more bells and whistles are added to current LCD and Plasma TV sets, so the prices of less recent technology TV sets is dropping like a stone.

I own an 8 years old Samsung flat screen TV set that was the cheapest on my local market, at the time of purchase. I have not experienced one problem, and will keep the TV set until it dies on me.

I almost want to get a tube set, only because I'm familiar with them and I can afford them. I'm not someone to get something for the sake of its newness, as it were.

Why not inquire in your local market for cathode ray tube sets?Or purchase a second hand CRT set with a guarantee, from a local dealer?

Less bulky sets are now available in the market.

If you have no space restrictions, are happy without the latest-and-greatest, and don't have heavy technical requirements, why NOT buy a CRT (tube) TV? You'll save a bundle, use less electricity, and allow the plasma/LCD market to sort itself out before spending the big bucks.

You may need to purchase an HD set-top box for HD TV transmission (which I understand is subsidized in the US anyway) but other than that you should have no other issues.

Sounds like a great idea to me as well.
 
we have a LG Plasma 42" and it is awsome no problems. Greta picture,features,.

Would recomned to use a home theater sound system for it.
