I've been having problems with hitting my snooze button too much.

The alarm sounds at 7am, I go to bed at 10:30pm. I feel rested, but I keep hitting the darn snooze button and end up being late for my day.

Any suggestions?

I already have an alarm clock for the hard of hearing (because Im a heavy sleeper). At first I couldn't stand it, but now it sounds for an hour above 90 decibels and I just lie in bed half awake/half asleep.

Any advice? Any tip on breaking this bad habit?

Move the clock so the snooze button is out of reach - so you will have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Once already out of bed it is much easier to stay up for the day...

You might also add a sunrise clock that brightens the room to see if that helps bring you out of a deep sleep before your clock alarms. There are also some clocks made for deaf people that will flash the bedside lamp and shake the mattress.

If these measures don't work, you might consider getting a sleep study to ensure that you're sleeping normally at night. Difficulty waking can be a symptom of sleep apnea or a sleep disorder, so it would be worth ruling those out.

Honey do you have sleep apnea? If you seem to be over tired that might be the reason do you find yourself tired more than usual or falling asleep through out the day? Do you have insomnia, irritability, or mood swings, depression, dry throat, headaches or snoring? If you answered yes to any number of these and it is chronically happening you might want to talk to a sleep specialist or pulmonologist and get in for a sleep study you might need a CPAP.

Hey thank you all for your nice responses and support! I think it's worth gold.

I was actually tested for apnea, and it came back negative. I do snore. I've had trouble with insomnia, but most nights a one or two twinning's chamollile and 450mg of valerian do the trick. I've also used, with success, mugwort. I find they dont make me incapable of getting out of bed in the morning, like the seroquel I was prescribed once did. Also, my therapist tests me for depression and I never get a worrying result, though I do have moderate anxiety.

I think it is a matter of discipline, because I set the watch in the other side of the room.

Haha, this thread shouldve been called "sometimes I do wake up but turn off the alarm and go back to sleep".

I seem to have got the hang of it, I've been setting the clock to 7:30am. I wish it was earlier, but I'll wait before trying 6:30 am again lest I mess up the whole situation.

People don't behave unusually for no reason: it's important to know why your mind/body has changed behaviour and not to simply force it into a pattern you believe you should have in order to conform, with drugs and other bandaids.

Perhaps the bad habit is forcing yourself into a day your body can no longer deal with or which subconsciously you resent and therefore you are meeting resistance.

What happens if you allow yourself to lay there for as long as you need: do you eventually find an internal desire to get up?

hey thanks for the great answer.

i do find a motivation to get up. two i can thing about:
1) if I sleep past noon I will just mess up my sleep cycle even more
2)I'm super excited about my writing projects so I cant wait to get up, even though i resist it.

and sometimes, of course, trouble sleeping. i decided to stop caffeine intake at 5:00pm rather than 6:00pm to see what happens
